“For me, Black History Month is about bringing black achievements to the forefront,” says Christian T. NaogBan, Senior Quality Manager. This month, Christian reflects on the value that black inventors and innovators bring to construction and engineering. “I’ve always been passionate about the ‘how’ behind inventions,” he says. “Otis Boykin – inventor of a resistor used in computers, radios and televisions and Philip Emeagwali – a Nigerian inventor behind the supercomputer, are two black inventors whom I greatly admire.” Christian joined E.E. Cruz in 2016, working on numerous high-profile projects. He is now Senior Quality Manager for the 43 Stations project and wants to earn an MBA. “E.E. Cruz does an outstanding job at fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging,” says Christian. I am very grateful to work with such an amazing and supportive team at a company that truly values every employee.” Thank you, Christian, for the value and expertise you add to our team!

This holiday season, E.E. Cruz gave back to the New York City community by preparing and serving meals at Part of the Solution (POTS). POTS is a nonprofit organization in The Bronx – a borough of New York City where nearly 25 percent of residents’ incomes fall below the federal poverty level. Additionally, a large population of households residing in neighborhoods around POTS identify as food insecure. “As a past volunteer of POTS, I knew that food insecurity was an issue then and has reached crisis levels during and post-COVID in what is deemed to be the wealthiest city in the world,” says Coleen Cohen, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, Human Resources Director at E.E. Cruz. “Returning to support the organization, this time as an employee of E.E. Cruz, is aligned with a quote by Shirley Chisholm that has influenced my volunteerism: ‘Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.’ It is important and humbling to help people in need because, one day, that could be someone we know, including ourselves.”

At E.E. Cruz, we take pride in improving infrastructure and giving back to our community in the New York City Metropolitan Area. In November, Turner Construction Company-E.E. Cruz Battery Park Resiliency joint-venture team members attended the Fletcher H. "Bud" Griffis Scholarship Fund Dinner Dance where they were presented the Society of American Military Engineers ‘Contractor of the Year’ Award. In addition to receiving this accolade, the joint-venture team sponsored a portion of the event - making an impactful contribution to the scholarship fund. This annual event benefits the New York City Post Society of American Military Engineers Scholarship Fund - enabling the program to continue to serve local youth who aspire to pursue careers in engineering and architecture. #HeavyCivilConstruction #NewYork #CareersInEngineering

At E.E. Cruz, safety is at the forefront of everything we do. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the construction industry, sadly, has the highest suicide rate among all industries, nearly four times greater than the national average. The Rebuild By Design – Hudson River Resiliency project team recently held a mental health and wellness stand down in observance of suicide prevention month. “Continuing education is of utmost importance when it comes to our employees’ safety and wellbeing says Brian Cichetti, Safety Manager. “Raising awareness on mental health-related issues is a critical part of construction safety - providing a solid foundation for a safe work environment for all. At E.E. Cruz, we are proud to offer mental health education, support and resources for our employees.” #SuicidePreventionMonth #MentalHealthAwareness

As we commemorate the anniversary of September 11, 2001, we reflect on the profound impact this day had, and for many still has, on our lives, our city and our nation. Across the nation and world, we cannot forget the events of that day and the long recovery we faced. E.E. Cruz is honored to have played a role in the healing and rebuilding process of the city. Many of our employees volunteered countless hours in cleanup and recovery efforts. A few years after the attacks, E.E. Cruz was entrusted with building the Memorial’s foundation—the first contract awarded in the rebuilding efforts. Many of our employees volunteered countless hours in cleanup and recovery efforts and have memories that we can never forget. Brian Cichetti, E.E. Cruz Safety Manager, shares his memories of the day and the work that helped rebuild the city. Visit our website to watch Brian Cichetti, E.E. Cruz Safety Manager’s story: https://lnkd.in/gwG6336S

At EE Cruz, we believe in breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. It starts with conversations. Talking with someone can help save a life. Together we can reduce the stigma around mental illness. Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, construction workers are five times more likely to die by suicide than by jobsite accidents. By raising awareness, offering support, and promoting mental health resources, we can help those in need and potentially save lives. If you or someone you know is in need of help, free resources provide confidential support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When you call, text, or chat 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, your conversation is confidential. 988 provides you judgment-free care. #ConstructionSuicidePreventionWeek #SuicidePreventionMonth
