Unending gratitude and appreciation for the energy, openness, and kindness of the Artificiality community who gathered for the Imagining Summit this weekend in Bend. We journeyed through the blending of synthetic and organic worlds, intimacy, spatiality, knowledge, consciousness, minds, kids & the future, inclusion, art & music. We learned, challenged, explored, wandered, and wondered. We sparked new friendships and deepened old ones. We feasted, shared stories, listened, and laughed. Helen and I are grateful beyond words for this extraordinary group taking a risk with us—trusting that we would give everything we have. We are inspired and overwhelmed. And we are already planning next year’s Summit! After a weekend at The Imagining Summit with an amazing group of creatively generous, kind, and inspiring people, the rain arrived here in Bend. It felt right— clearing the smoky air, creating room to breathe and go forward, energized by what we accomplished together. The Artificiality event was more than we had hoped for. DXM had the opportunity to present and launch RISE, a co-creation art experience in partnership with artist Patrick Stull. Elizabeth Stull presented a conceptual overview of RISE, Lee Swearingen introduced “Judy,” the AI agent built by DXM to create collaborative artwork, Stemach Design & Architecture rendered the planned exhibition space, and Heather Crank and Megan White helped with the design of our popup gallery. The Artificiality Imagining Summit kicks off today with a casual meet up for those already in Bend. What started as a simple idea—"let's get a few people together to talk about AI"—has grown into something much bigger and more ambitious, because we aim to make a real impact. Extracting ourselves from the doom and downside of AI isn't easy and there are plenty of reasons for pessimism. But if we want this powerful technology to work in our favor, we need to make a case for the positive outcomes it can bring. Our catalyzers are experts not just in AI but in human fields—art, philanthropy, child development, psychology, movement, music, creativity, biology, language, and design. Over the next four days, we'll be imagining a hopeful future together. We're sold out and thrilled to kick off the program. Stay tuned for what this group produces—including a book envisioning a hopeful future with AI.
