At DWD, we believe apprenticeships are powerful because they open so many doors for people to explore potential careers. That’s why we’re thrilled to share that our team won the Healthcare Apprenticeship Partner Award from Houston Community College for the workforce development work we do each and every day! It’s so rewarding to be recognized by our peers, but even more rewarding to know we’re helping people make a positive change in their lives. It’s National Apprenticeship Week! ?? At Dwyer Workforce Development, we’re proud to create accessible pathways to healthcare careers. In partnership with Houston Community College, we're now offering a pre-apprenticeship program—Texas’ first virtual, free pre-apprenticeship in healthcare. This program is a key part of our commitment to help individuals ‘earn while they learn,’ preparing them for careers as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN). Thanks to a $312,000 grant, our pre-apprenticeship program provides essential support, including career counseling, mentorship, and resources like childcare, transportation, and housing assistance. This free, self-paced online program runs eight weeks for CNAs and six weeks for LVNs, paving the way for students to transition into paid apprenticeships through the Gulf Coast Region Apprenticeship Hub.
