On September 26, 2024, Do Greater Charlotte, a local Black-led nonprofit, officially kicked off construction for the Creative Lab Uptown—a new center dedicated to nurturing youth creativity and entrepreneurship. This innovative facility will focus on digital creativity, including coding and podcasting, while also emphasizing workforce development. Each of its three floors will cater to different facets of these goals. Key Highlights: ?? Location: Situated in the historic Harvey B. Gantt office building at 500 N. Tryon Street. ?? Community Impact: Founder and CEO William McNeely referred to the center as an “ecosystem of possibility,” showcasing its potential to empower young creatives. ?? Support: At the event, Wells Fargo announced a generous $750,000 grant to support the center, with the second floor designated as The Wells Fargo Lab for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. ?? Notable Attendance: We were honored to have influential figures, including DeAlva Wilson Arnold from the Do Greater Charlotte board and former Charlotte mayor Harvey B. Gantt, who celebrated the project’s significance alongside attendees. ??? Timeline: Construction is slated for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2025. The enthusiasm and support from the community at the kick-off event underscore the importance of this initiative, aimed at enriching the lives of young creatives in Charlotte.
