The recent study by the National Low Income Housing Coalition sheds light on a growing issue in Grand Rapids: the need for affordable housing and livable wages. Our city has become one of the most expensive places to live in Michigan, with an average housing wage of $26.33 per hour required to afford a 2-bedroom apartment without paying more than 30% of income on rent. For the 49503 area, this figure climbs to $26.92 per hour. This data underscores the urgent need for initiatives that address both housing affordability and fair wages.
