A first look at Wedge House ???? Thank you to Dwell for the feature. “Though the Wedge team obviously has design chops—their work with Matheson Food Company, Vacation, and Ssense is proof—spatial design was a new frontier. "We’re not people who come from this world," admits Co-Founder Sarah Di Domenico. "There’s a lot we had to learn." But what she and Founder Justin Lortie didn’t need help with was their vision: they were clear on the color palette, a mix of creamy yellows, rusts, and dusty blues inspired by their travels in Copenhagen, and easily dialed in a mood board complete with furnishings. We’re thrilled to begin the year with a Dwell feature on Blue Ridge House, a residence within a vineyard in Delaplane, Virginia, led by design principal Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA. The two-story home articulates the clients’ deep affection for the site, hovering above a grassy knoll overlooking vineyards. Its design unfolds into the tree canopy, with steel-reinforced cantilevers creating a sense of extension and integration. The red patina of Corten steel siding reinforces the sense that the home has grown within the natural landscape. “That’s why the clients came to me,” Tom Kundig notes. “I said, How can we disappear this house into the landscape? I hope that, as things mature, you won’t see the house. You’ll feel like it’s a part of that landscape.
