Durham has reached another milestone: we've met and surpassed our 2019 visitor spending record - reaching $1.125 billion in 2023. While there’s reason to celebrate, there’s more work to be done. As we continue to grow and work to be a top place to live, work and visit, we're encouraging folks to keep dollars local and understand how tourism increases the quality of life for residents. With our new nonprofit, Durham Next, we plan to facilitate some large-scale, long-term projects that will fulfill a vision for Durham decades in the future, but we also plan to support our small businesses in various ways. Thanks to ongoing support from the City of Durham and Durham County, we plan to organize efforts to pave the way for a sustainable tourism and hospitality economy that keeps pace with our growing market.
