  • How can we balance the growing energy demand from data centers and AI while considering the impact on costs and infrastructure?? ? We had a great time at Carnegie Mellon University Energy Week, where Brian Guzek, our VP of corporate strategy, discussed the role of electric utilities in supporting the growth of data centers that power AI, many of which require large amounts of energy. Brian emphasized the importance of ensuring affordability and making sure everyday customers don’t bear the burden of paying for these energy-consuming data centers that demand more from the electric grid. Lindsay Baxter, senior manager of energy policy and public affairs at DLC, highlighted our partnership with CMU and the work being done to foster innovation that benefits both students and the Pittsburgh community.?

We’re still energized after joining Pittsburgh Public Schools and First Student at a ribbon cutting last week to unveil 16 new electric school buses — the first for the district! DLC is honored to provide the infrastructure to charge the buses, which gives students a cleaner, quieter ride to school while also reducing greenhouse emissions and fuel/maintenance costs. And this is just the beginning! PPS is planning to add 45 more electric buses to its fleet in the near future with funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Clean School Bus Program. https://lnkd.in/ekAE8yTW #ElectricBuses #CleanEnergyFuture #CleanRide4Kids

  • We’re thrilled to announce the expansion of LineVision’s dynamic line rating system across DLC’s grid! With a $19.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), this third deployment of LineVision’s overhead line-monitoring system can increase transmission line capacity by up to 25%, enhance grid flexibility and unlock more clean energy sources. This technology has already shown to enhance the reliability, capacity, affordability and clean energy deployment of our grid. We’re proud of our partnership with LineVision and will stay committed to modernizing our grid and making conscious grid-enhancing investments for Pittsburgh’s clean energy future. #GridModernization #SmartGrid? https://lnkd.in/eAhsZGST

  • Branden Bauer, a lineworker from United Electric Cooperative, recently visited DLC’s service centers to share his powerful story of overcoming unimaginable adversity. After losing both arms in a 2021 electrical accident, Branden’s courage and optimism serve as a reminder of the impact that accidents have not just on those who experience them, but also on their families and loved ones. Branden’s emotional presentation highlighted the importance of safety, even in routine tasks. But despite the challenges he faces, Branden’s message was one of hope: “With the right mindset and determination, you can accomplish awesome things.” Branden continues to lead a fulfilling life, now serving as a crew lead and enjoying activities like hunting and swimming. He and his wife are also expecting their third daughter in April. “You never know when it’ll be your last day,” he said. “Make sure you don’t ever miss an opportunity to tell your loved ones just how much you do love them.” Learn more about Branden’s inspiring story:?https://lnkd.in/eSGJUHbN ?

  • March is Women’s History Month — a time to honor the remarkable achievements of women throughout history and recognize their pivotal role in shaping our communities, workplaces and the world at large. This year’s theme, “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations,” highlights the invaluable contributions of women whose dedication to education, mentorship and leadership continues to inspire. At DLC, we celebrate the many women who are mentors and leaders — and the work they do to foster an environment where everyone can thrive. ?

  • One of the most rewarding activities during our #BlackHistoryMonth celebration included two volunteer events with Central Baptist Church in Pittsburgh’s historic Hill District neighborhood. Central Baptist has been a beacon in the community since 1912. They are known for their Food Ministry, which allows the congregation to prepare and distribute meals to neighbors in need every weekday, every week of the year. Members of our Black and African American business employee resource group, BRIDGE, visited the church on Feb. 7 and Feb. 24 to help hand out meals. By collaborating with our community partners and offering a helping hand, we’re working to build stronger connections with our neighbors, foster meaningful relationships and support those who need it most.?
