Branden Bauer, a lineworker from United Electric Cooperative, recently visited DLC’s service centers to share his powerful story of overcoming unimaginable adversity. After losing both arms in a 2021 electrical accident, Branden’s courage and optimism serve as a reminder of the impact that accidents have not just on those who experience them, but also on their families and loved ones. Branden’s emotional presentation highlighted the importance of safety, even in routine tasks. But despite the challenges he faces, Branden’s message was one of hope: “With the right mindset and determination, you can accomplish awesome things.” Branden continues to lead a fulfilling life, now serving as a crew lead and enjoying activities like hunting and swimming. He and his wife are also expecting their third daughter in April. “You never know when it’ll be your last day,” he said. “Make sure you don’t ever miss an opportunity to tell your loved ones just how much you do love them.” Learn more about Branden’s inspiring story:?https://lnkd.in/eSGJUHbN ?

March is Women’s History Month — a time to honor the remarkable achievements of women throughout history and recognize their pivotal role in shaping our communities, workplaces and the world at large. This year’s theme, “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations,” highlights the invaluable contributions of women whose dedication to education, mentorship and leadership continues to inspire. At DLC, we celebrate the many women who are mentors and leaders — and the work they do to foster an environment where everyone can thrive. ?

One of the most rewarding activities during our #BlackHistoryMonth celebration included two volunteer events with Central Baptist Church in Pittsburgh’s historic Hill District neighborhood. Central Baptist has been a beacon in the community since 1912. They are known for their Food Ministry, which allows the congregation to prepare and distribute meals to neighbors in need every weekday, every week of the year. Members of our Black and African American business employee resource group, BRIDGE, visited the church on Feb. 7 and Feb. 24 to help hand out meals. By collaborating with our community partners and offering a helping hand, we’re working to build stronger connections with our neighbors, foster meaningful relationships and support those who need it most.?

Last week, we had the pleasure of creating fun winter memories with our 2024 Community Impact Grant recipients during a special skate night at the Hunt Armory Skate Rink. In collaboration with the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, this event served as a heartfelt thank you to our community partners for the impactful work they do to improve countless lives across our region. And the best part? Everyone stayed on their feet! Thank you to everyone who came out and skated with us!?

Thanks, PNC, for inviting us to participate in this thoughtful, engaging event! The discussion on intentional leadership provided valuable perspectives that will undoubtedly influence everyone who attended.
In celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth, our African American Employee Business Resource Group hosted Kevin Walker, CEO of Duquesne Light Company, for a discussion on intentional leadership and creating an environment where everyone can thrive.

The Pennsylvania Office of Small Business Advocate is conducting a survey to better understand small businesses' concerns about utility service. If you're a small business within DLC's service area with fewer than 250 employees, we would appreciate your feedback. Your input helps us ensure continued safe, reliable and affordable service. The survey will be open until March 31. We look forward to hearing from you! https://bit.ly/41eqL8C

BRIDGE, our Black and African American Business Employee Resource Group, recently hosted its annual luncheon to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth. We were honored to have DeWitt Walton of United Steelworkers (USW) join as our keynote speaker. In addition to also serving as a councilperson for Allegheny County District 10, Mr. Walton has extensive experience as a civil rights activist. His presentation to BRIDGE members was both moving and informative, highlighting progress for Black people in the workplace and emphasizing the continued importance of having a voice. ?

新春快乐! Xīnchūn kuàilè! Happy Lunar New Year! Proud to share that our Aspire (Asian American and Pacific Islander) employee ally circle recently organized a vibrant celebration for the Lunar New Year — a festival that marks the beginning of the year based on the lunar calendar, celebrated in many cultures in East and Southeast Asia.? The waist drum dance and calligraphy were just some of the highlights as we welcomed the Year of the Snake. It was a wonderful blend of cultural experiences, along with the opportunity to savor delicious traditional dishes.?
