We recently had the honor of hosting leadership from Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard for a productive discussion on workforce partnerships and ongoing support. Jason Eddy, our manager of technical training, guided them through our Woods Run campus and provided an insightful overview of the underground work. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and supporting this vital organization.

Recently, DLC has been hosting Electrical Hazard Awareness Sessions for first responders at various locations. These sessions are designed to help them effectively identify, protect and navigate situations around electrical equipment. During these sessions, crews provide valuable insights into the electrical system, the voltages present in the area and the hazards associated with dealing with live wires at a scene. Following the session, attendees have the opportunity to witness a demonstration on DLC’s Live Line trailer, showcasing safety scenarios. Our commitment to educating and empowering first responders enables them to make informed decisions, thereby prioritizing safety in all situations.

Workforce development is crucial for fostering the next generation of professionals. Recently, DLC hosted a session for Duquesne University on our Woods Run site, where participants had the opportunity to learn about DLH and the electric utility industry. By offering these educational experiences, we aim to deepen the understanding of the industry and support innovation.

Last month, our employees participated in a rewarding volunteer event with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Our HR and Energy Efficiency teams, comprising a total of 20 employees, volunteered in two shifts—morning and afternoon. They assisted residents in the food bank's market, helping them shop for essential items. This event reflects our long-standing partnership with the food Bank and underscores our commitment to serving the community.

We’re all about community at DLC! Last week, we were absolutely delighted to pay a special visit to 14-year-old Jimmy Spagnolo of Shaler, PA. Jimmy is a remarkable cancer survivor who showed interest in DLC when some utility work was being done in his neighborhood. After seeing his curiosity, our crews gave Jimmy a hard hat, safety vest and gloves. He was thrilled to receive the gifts, especially leading up to the new school year. Now he and his family are hoping for even better news when Jimmy goes for his next scan this week. His brain tumor has been stable since May. We’re so grateful to our crew members for brightening Jimmy’s day and for all they do for our communities. Thank you to WPXI-TV for capturing this inspiring story!
