“[Most] seniors say they would like to get involved in the community and give back, but only about 20 to 25% do,” says DU professor Scott McLagan. University College’s Enrichment Program is launching a new program, in partnership with the Knoebel Institute for Healthy Aging, called Retirement Reimagined. It’s designed to help seniors navigate post-work life with purpose, community, and impact. Registration opens December 9.

A home care agency, a cooking school, a Moroccan bakery, a gender-inclusive translation service, and a matchmaking service were among the businesses presented at last week's Business Development Certificate Pitch Day. This certificate program, through University College's Center for Professional Development, teaches immigrant and refugee students how to?successfully build a business in the U.S. On Pitch Day, each aspiring businessperson takes the stage to share their personal story and present their newly honed business plan and pitch. Applications for the next cohort are welcomed (for free!) through Jan. 21.
On November 14, the Business Development Certificate program, developed in partnership with World Trade Center Denver, celebrated the accomplishments of 11 incredible immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs at Pitch Day! Over 12 weeks, participants gained business planning, financing, branding, and marketing skills—all taught by industry experts. ?? Highlights: ?? 11 business pitches included ideas ranging from matchmaking and Moroccan cookies to Ethiopian fashion and vegan cuisine. ?? Certificates of completion were awarded and attendees included program instructors and partners from state and local organizations. ?? Closing remarks by Alejandro Flores-Mu?oz, local entrepreneur and owner of @combi_cafe, inspired the group. ?? Applications for the spring cohort are open through January 21. Refugee and first-generation immigrant entrepreneurs looking to launch or expand a business are encouraged to apply for this no-cost program! ?? https://lnkd.in/g-SAvXzW #Entrepreneurship #BusinessDevelopment #DUProfessionalDevelopment #RefugeeEntrepreneurs #ImmigrantSuccess

Two teams from University of Denver - Ritchie School of Engineering & Computer Science and University College at University of Denver participated at the CyberForce competition organized by CyberForce? Program! The in-person competition took place this weekend in Chicago. The competition was designed to simulate real world cybersecurity challenges. We were tasked to defend the energy infrastructure and ensure all the layers of network infrastructure were protected and functioning properly. As this was my first experience handling different layers of network architecture, I learned a lot from this experience. It showed me that cybersecurity goes beyond theoretical knowledge, it requires a deep understanding of each layer’s functionality to address different challenges effectively. Thanks to all my team members, mentors, our professors at University of Denver and especially CyberForce? Program and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for this wonderful experience. “We help students to recognize all forms of threats and attacks and improve their critical thinking to question everything they see online,” says DU instructor Mark Merkow, an application security engineer at Freeport McMoRan. October is #CybersecurityMonth, and we’re highlighting the ways our programs help cultivate the next generation of cybersecurity experts. Cybercrime never stops evolving, and as AI affects more of our online lives, the line between “real” and “generated” becomes more blurred. Our cybersecurity programs are constantly updated to reflect up-to-date concepts and techniques for countering cyberthreats.
