Duolingo is the world's most popular way to learn a language.

关于我们

Our mission is to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available. Duolingo is the most downloaded education app in the history of the App Store and in 2019 became the top-grossing education app worldwide. We set out to do something altogether different in the learning space. Learning a new language is hard; we believe it should be fun. We use bite-sized lessons that feel like playing a game to keep our learners motivated. Learning a new language can also be expensive, and because we believe it should be free, we made it so. Duolingo has been named to: BuiltIn's Best Places to Work (2023), Fast Company Best Workplaces for Innovators (2022), Fast Company 10 Most Innovative Education Company (2022), among others.

Did you know that Duo’s butt inspired our office coffee shop logo? In our Pittsburgh and NYC offices, we have the Green Bean Café. The design was inspired by the question, “if Duo made a coffee shop, what would it look like?” The Green Bean serves as a community space for Duos and visitors to grab their favorite drink, a smoothie, or try Duo’s featured drink (currently caramel apple butter latte in NYC and honey orange dreamsicle latte in Pittsburgh). The Green Bean features fun design elements like coffee bean bags adorned with our characters and Duo being squished in a french press. Wanna grab coffee with Duo? ?? Many of you know we recently released a feature called Video Call, but did you know it took six years of intentional experimentation and failures to get us there? ?? The key problem to solve: learners need practice using language in real-world situations. We chatted with Edwin Bodge and Zan Gilani about the failed experiments that helped us build Video Call.??? No big deal or anything, but one of our software engineers writes crossword puzzles for The New York Times. This is the 4th puzzle Alina Abidi (pictured here with longtime NYT Crossword editor Will Shortz) has contributed to the NYT. Her puzzles also have been published in many other outlets, including a crossword tournament called Lollapuzzoola. Alina says, "Being a software engineer helps me make crosswords in concrete ways; sometimes I write small programs to help me generate valid theme entries. My job also helps me think of interesting cluing angles for common words, or entirely new words and phrases to put in the grid. I'll often hear something interesting in a meeting (like "antipattern" or "automagically") and jot it down." We love hiring people with interests outside of work, because those experiences bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the table. And as you can see, our Duos (employees) love celebrating each other, too. If you want to work with some super fascinating people, apply here ?? https://lnkd.in/e5cuRSBz #duolingo #onlyatduolingo

“Better a hole in the company than an a**hole.” We are now 800+ people and every single person was carefully selected. We hire people who are exceptionally skilled in their craft and deeply aligned with our mission – no matter what. It’s tempting to hire for an urgent need or to simply fill a hole in the organization, but bringing in the wrong person to fill a need is never the right move. The good thing is, when you hire the right people, they tend to stick around. And our experience validates this: on average, Duos (our employees) stay here much longer than employees at most tech companies. Our annual retention rate is ~90%! If you’re interested in growing with us, check out our 76 openings! https://lnkd.in/ehczPw-C #onlyatduolingo #duolingo

???? Time to celebrate Caroline Ouwerkerk, who has just hit an incredible milestone: 10 years of daily language learning on Duolingo! Caroline has been learning Dutch to connect with her dad’s side of the family, and she’s shown some serious dedication to keep her streak alive—without ever using a streak freeze. Check out some of the wild ways she made it happen: ??On a bike tour in Vietnam: She broke away from a bike tour in Ha Long Bay, venturing off to a remote chicken farm to snag an unsecured wi-fi signal. ?? On her wedding day: As she sat getting her makeup done, she made sure to squeeze in a Dutch lesson. ?? The day she gave birth: At 5 a.m., while in labor, she completed her daily practice before leaving for the hospital to deliver her baby. Ten years of dedication, growth, and never missing a day—you’re an inspiration, Caroline! ????
