This spring, 17 faculty members at Duke University School of Medicine were awarded distinguished professorships in recognition of their outstanding scholarship and commitment to advancing science and improving human health. https://lnkd.in/etS4yAvH Among them is Micah Luftig, PhD, professor and vice chair in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology and Professor in Integrative Immunobiology. Dr. Luftig’s research explores the molecular mechanisms by which viruses, particularly Epstein-Barr virus, contribute to cancer — with the aim of informing both diagnostics and therapeutic interventions. Congratulations Micah! #DukeHealth #ScienceThatInspires #Virology #CancerResearch

Duke Integrative Immunobiology: Excellence in Research, Education, and Science Culture
关于我们
Duke Integrative Immunobiology is a basic science department that seeks to understand the function of the immune system and how information derived from patients can help frame the research questions we ask to best understand human diseases. This is reflected in our training mission with multiple interdisciplinary research projects for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to tackle. Also critical to our success as a department is fostering a culture of diversity and inclusivity in all its dimensions as well as an ethos of service to society.

This past Saturday on March 15, Duke University IIB grad students (left to right) Yu-Ming, Alex, Beth, Jeff, Meaghan, Emma, and Zoe volunteered with the Museum of Life and Science. They organized and prepared materials for the museum's upcoming summer camp, which aims to make science exciting and accessible to a new generation of #scientists. Thanks for being engaged with our community! #STEM #Duke #ScienceThatInspires

Why do immunotherapies often fail in brain tumors? Research from IIB faculty member and Duke Center for Brain and Spine Metastasis (DCBSM) director Peter Fecci and his team suggests that T-cell exhaustion isn’t caused by tumor cells, but rather by infiltrating macrophages. Their study, published in the Cell Press journal, Immunity, introduces a new parameter—PETER—that may predict immunotherapy success and reveal new ways to boost treatment effectiveness. Federal funding is essential to Duke's research. #ScienceThatInspires
Duke research saves lives. Now, we must save research. National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding fuels innovation, the economy, and life-saving discoveries. Cuts could have major impacts on our community. Here's what we know... Duke University Health System | Duke University School of Medicine

There's been a lot of #confusion about what indirect costs actually cover in support of federally-funded research at US universities. Holden Thorp , former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor and Editor-in-Chief of Science Magazine, breaks it down clearly in his latest interview on NPR:?https://lnkd.in/e4qXtekw A must-read for anyone interested in the impact of the proposed cuts to US #biomedical research. #ScienceFunding #Research #HigherEd #Duke #NIH
