Five years ago, my co-founder Neville Lusimba and I set off an exciting adventure to build a profitable + scalable tech company. After three years of experimenting with hundreds of merchants across Kenya, we officially incorporated DUKAPAQ in 2022. I’ve been fortunate to have an amazing team of operators and engineers by my side throughout this journey. In the startup world, It’s not just about being brilliant; it’s all about having a relentless optimism and the guts to put ideas to the test instead of keeping them locked in your head. My leadership team Felicity Sangona Jackson Hayward Victor Otieno have poured their hearts into turning our ideas into reality, and just a few weeks ago, we soft-launched our very first storefront in Weslands, Nairobi! We couldn’t have achieved all this without our fantastic advisory board, which includes some big names from the payments, tech, and business worlds. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve accomplished as a bootstrapped startup: ? Developed our own industry-recognized software ? Secured banking and payment processing partnerships ? Configured custom hardware that works seamlessly with our software ? Partnered with top fintech research universities and institutions ? Built a world-class team split between Tulsa, OK ???? and Nairobi, Kenya ???? ? Launched a full-service Point of Sale platform ? Started generating recurring revenue ? Opened our flagship retail store in Nairobi We accomplished all this by breaking away from typical startup advice and carving our own path. It’s been a huge learning experience for me, and I’ve grown so much along the way. Opening our first retail storefront has been a huge milestone. After months of searching for the perfect spot, it’s now become a key place for us to connect directly with our customers and boost our revenue. Looking back, it’s hard to believe we’ve hit all these milestones as a bootstrapped company, and I’m super excited about what’s next for DUKAPAQ. It’s super easy for your customers to divide their bills with our split tender payments. You can use various payment methods to transmit transactions through the DUKAPAQ platform, whether on mobile device or with our custom hardware, plus you can also do it via the DUKAPAQ virtual terminal on your dashboard. Just remember, a split tender payment is only done when the total sale amount is processed and there’s no remaining balance. Happy selling!
