Due East was proud to support the 3rd Annual Child Care Summit and 1st Statewide Summit hosted by Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman and co-hosted by the Woman’s Caucus and the Maryland Association of Local Management Boards. Tuesday's virtual summit engaged 300+ elected officials, early educators/child care providers, parents and caregivers, advocates and concerned community members from across the state. A huge thank you to the speakers who brought the Summit to life, including Comptroller Brooke Lierman, Senator Sarah Elfreth, Delegate Dana Jones, Delegate Aletheia McCaskill, County Executive Steuart Pittman, Special Secretary Carmel Martin, Dr. Shayna Cook, Laura Weeldreyer and Chris Peusch as well as the panel of providers and parents: Dr. Barbara Palmer, Cristy Morrell, Brenda Tyrrell, and Shaakira Gill. Together, we will build a child care system that works for children, their parents and caregivers, and our essential workforce of child care providers.

A couple of years ago, we had the incredible opportunity to partner with Annapolis Pride to develop their strategic plan. It was an inspiring experience to work alongside their dedicated Board to chart a roadmap that builds upon their incredible work to expand their impact and foster a more inclusive community. Collaborating on this project was a natural fit with Due East's core values: ?? Equity - We supported Annapolis Pride in pursuing equity for the LGBTQ+ community by leading with inclusive, anti-racist practices and policies. ?? Belonging - Together, we strategized ways to strengthen community connectedness and ensure LGBTQ+ youth and adults feel safe, welcomed, and represented. ? Agency - Our work is centered on amplifying the voices and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community to drive change. ?? Community - Annapolis Pride's strategic plan prioritized building diverse partnerships and engaging the broader community to establish safe spaces and expand access to critical services. Partnering with Annapolis Pride embodies our commitment at Due East to uplift and collaborate with people of all backgrounds in building a more just, equitable world.
