Since the project started in 2021 during pandemic restrictions on travel and gathering in person, many of the meetings during the transition from schematic design to buildable design were held via video conference. But rather than strife, according to every member of the team from Crow Holdings to Duda|Paine to Gensler, this was an unusually effective collaboration that made solving the myriad problems associated with building a mass timber building work smoothly."

I had a great time at the AIA Triangle Tour of Residential Architecture this weekend! A few of us from Duda|Paine Architects visited a diverse mix of homes, from private residences to Airbnbs and cohousing communities. As someone who hasn't worked on many residential projects, it was interesting to learn about the custom details and challenges in these designs. Big thanks to the talented architects on the tour—Erin Sterling Lewis, FAIA, Kristen M. Hess, FAIA, Alicia Hylton-Daniel, Ellen Weinstein, Megan Casanega Patnaik and Ellen Cassilly —for sharing their work and answering all of our questions!
