By age 9, nearly two thirds of children in the US own a cellphone, with smartphone ownership jumping from 27% at age 7 to 62% by age 9. That’s a huge shift in just two years! This rapid change shows how quickly kids are becoming immersed in the digital world, and our latest wave of Dubit Trends reveals how this shift is global, but not necessarily at such an early age. Only 26% of kids in Japan own a mobile phone at 9 years old compared with the US number of 62%, and tablet ownership remains very low amongst Japanese kids across all ages, compared with UK and US ownership. Surprised? Well yes, you may have assumed Japan was even more connected than the UK and US.
