We are thrilled to announce the publication of the Dependable Artificial Intelligence (AI) Joint Service Publication (JSP) 936, which sets out the policy and procedural framework for UK Defence AI programmes. ?? Building on the UK Ministry of Defence commitment to an ambitious, safe and responsible approach to AI, this JSP is an important step to ensure that teams across the MOD and the wider UK Defence ecosystem understand what is required from them when developing and using AI technologies. It provides clear direction on how to implement the MOD AI Ethical Principles to deliver robust, reliable, and effective AI-enabled services and capabilities. This milestone was achieved thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Defence AI and Autonomy Unit (DAU) and the Defence AI Centre (DAIC) through Dstl, with active engagement and feedback from across the Defence community. Application for the 2025 intake to the EPSRC and MoD Sensing, Processing and AI for Defence and Security (SPADS CDT) is now open. The CDT is jointly funded by the UK Ministry of Defence and EPSRC and we are seeking candidates who can develop and exploit science and technology to deliver innovation in sensing and data processing. The deadline for first round application is 31 January 2025. Invitations to interview will be sent from mid-February and interviews will be held from late February. We have teamed up with other world-leading tech organisations to battle cybercrime at a hardware level. The Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions (CHERI) Alliance brings together the top minds in hardware security and software development from the UK, the US and India. Other organisations involved include the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) whose work we are already proud to support. Cambridge University, Google and Parvat Infotech are also among the 21 members.
