关于我们

We bridge the gap between Black makers, our neighboring creative kin, and the collective at large by and through design, education, and community. Culture conscious, maker oriented.

We’ve created the space, the table AND the seat (we are makers after all). And guess what? There’s plenty of space for you here, so pull up! Allow us to reintroduce ourselves, this collective, our mission, and our stories. We’ve rounded up 9 makers in design that we’re inspired by in one space. The result? Well, y’all let us know? Kicking off Black History Month, campaign No. 1: The Message. We’ll be releasing dsgnr profiles all month! A special thank you to our maker participants & team! Thank you for trusting us with the vision ????Your stories were incredible and further established our collective purpose. We hope you all enjoy! dsgnrs.

Last week SOLA Marketplace had our first event since June after taking the summer off for rest, recommitting to the journey, and touching grass! We joined up with Wocstar | B Corp Certified and Ghetto Film School’s Entrepreneurship Academy for a special event, SCRIBBLING, hosted at NEW INC, New Museum of Contemporary Art, our new home in Tribeca! SCRIBBLING created the space I needed at the beginning of my journey to understand on a deeper level why this business and this mission past what I could spin up for pitch decks, landing pages, and elevator pitches, but this journey being one of self and one were self preservation is paramount. This event brought together artists, creative business owners, and successful entrepreneurs to be honest and vulnerable about their journey, but as well provide simple tools to navigate life’s and our current ecosystems volatility, especially we as impact leaders, Black people, People of Color, Women and those historically marginalized head into a future where our work will be challenged but all the more important, essential, and relevant. To keep it LinkedIn timeline worthy and brief, it was a big success, attendees got to spend quality time with our panelists Alissa Mayers, Kamille Glenn of dsgnrswrkshp, and Julia Pimsleur of Million Dollar Women plus hear from me about my journey starting, bootrstapping, almost quitting lol, and finding the where withall to keep building SOLA! Thank you to everyone who joined, our sponsors, and Wocstar community members The Nourish Spot and S & G Cookies spot who provided food and drinks! What a beautiful moment I got to put together for my corner of the world ??????. Thank you Colleen Bataille for invitation and collaboration! #blackfemalefounder #newinc #touchinggrass

On last week's episode of #CreativelyOpposed, I am joined by the insanely talented Kamille Glenn, a world-renowned interior designer and the founder of dsgnrswrkshp, an incredible organization for Black and brown makers. Kamille’s story is an inspiring reminder that purpose is found not in the relentless pursuit of success, but in the intentional cultivation of community and balance. This episode was so restorative and one that I know I will be coming back to when I get caught up in the hustle and grind and am in need of a reminder. Because once again for the people in the back (and myself!), I do not have to work twice as hard! Take a listen below: Apple: https://lnkd.in/eNPqDgMR Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eKWXkXJf

Are y’all interested in a real conversation about flying solo? Well, I’ve been unlearning terms like “hustle culture” and “girl boss” while reframing my relationship with time and success – I’m tired. I’m teaming up with Alissa Mayers for a wrkshp addressing our relationship with self in all stages of entrepreneurship, join us! We’ve created resources for you and everything is free! We love free! Given this last week I know many of us enter this new week still grieving, still unsure of what is to come of the next four years given the results of the presidential election, and STILL TIRED in this country. The idea of 'Scribbling' came about when Colleen Bataille of Wocstar | B Corp Certified approached me to do a workshop on my entrepreneurial journey. Often, when you are in the thick of the hard work, it's very hard to see yourself offering lessons to others when you haven't achieved your goals and barriers feel endless. I, at the time, took a break from burnout when Colleen popped up in my inbox. I was consumed by ambiguity and was feeling out how best to pivot, if my exhaustion was ultimately a sign to stop. Given the last few weeks, I realized that this was THE lesson and now the one we all need. I offer this space for folks to come together in the spirit of how we can protect our movements?and community, but the projects, businesses, and innovations we have built to pursue a more equitable, just world by embracing what makes us feel unsure and nervous, but inspired and motivated. I encourage my community here in NYC (or if you are far and have friend based in NYC, tell them) to join for this amazing workshop put together by a diverse set of business leaders and creatives, Alissa Mayers, Kamille Glenn of dsgnrswrkshp, and Julia Pimsleur at NEW INC. We have created a space to share openly your anxieties and worries, and if you are ready, the plan and motivation you have for ensuring your work and vision are not lost as we look ahead to an ambiguous four years. Come find the invested, committed community of creatives and entrepreneurs who are ready to protect the work and innovations we are building for a better, just world and society. See you this Wednesday at 250 Hudson Street, SOLA Marketplace's new home in Tribeca. RSVP and share this special workshop here: https://lu.ma/v0qpndkj

It’s back to school season and we’re wishing all a fruitful and safe school year ahead. Educational spaces should be centered on love, healing, and safety, values that we share with our kin over The Black School! Please consider supporting their initiative here: https://lnkd.in/e8u8-p7b In our summer wrkshp, we explored institutional interiors with The Black School’s apprentices, designing the public spaces of their upcoming Schoolhouse! We discussed the significance of communal design, how color/texture can support learning, and the significance of honoring our ancestry in our most sacred space. They were incredible!
