Lots of great insights from Dscout's Co-Lab. I can't wait to run my next Understanding Sprint inspired by Eniola Abioye. Some of my favorite takeaways: ?? Knowledge moves through people, not reports, readouts, and decks ??? Knowledge management is like a product: don't ask the user to change their mental models, make the product change ??? The problem is not just access to insights, but the insight re-engagement ?? Run Understanding Sprints (like a design sprint) to collectively digest and make sense of the findings, themes, and implications ??? Usable insights are accessible, connected, defensible, tangible, and secure ? Excited for day 2!

Everyone preaches the value of storytelling for presenting UX work to stakeholders. But what if you don't have time for a story? What if you're presented with a topic or question on the fly that you haven't had time to prepare for in advance? Remember this Spontaneous Talk Framework: What? So what? Now what? Designed in the 1970s, this framework helps you quickly organize your thoughts and respond with just enough context. Simply answer: ? What? — What happened or what is going to happen? ? So what? — Why is it important or why does this matter? ? Now what? — What will we do next or what should we do moving forward? And you'll be able to respond with poise and polish—event when put on the spot.
Six weeks is all it takes to learn how to present research in a way that makes stakeholder want to sit up and take action. So much more. Start now and say hello to more informative and actionable shareouts in 2025. Sign up for free ?? https://bit.ly/3URFjIY
When the sessions for your upcoming virtual event could double as song titles on a chart-topping UX indie album... ???? 1?? Researchers Aren't Asking Good Questions by Nikki Smith, Ph.D 2?? Do You Like My Hats? by Andrew Warr 3?? Meet Me at the Seat by Mina Jonsson 4?? Our Core Product Needs a Redesign by Eniola Abioye 5?? We Are the Catalysts by John Garvie 6?? Reflections on Power, Priorities, and Perspective by Malia Nagle 7?? Copilot, Coach Constructs Oh My! by Kevin Newton And that's just a *handful* of the topics covered over the course of two days. Conducting research with non-users is especially relevant for orgs that don't yet have a product. But it can also be helpful when you're: ?? setting up Jobs-to-Be-Done interviews ?? trying to understanding how to onboard new users ?? breaking into new markets/segments Here's some participant criteria you might want to prioritize during recruitment: ? Unfamiliar with the brand/product ? Using a competitor product ? Recently stopped using a competitor product ? Bad experiences with a competitor or similar products ? People with loyalty to another brand ? Life circumstances It's more advantageous to speak to people with loyalty to another brand than people who are completely uninterested in the topic your product covers. Plus, people with bad previous experiences and misinformation are great candidates to understanding the perceived gaps and negativity around your product.
