? NEW COURSE ALERT! ? We are happy to announce that our new course "Alcohol Pharmacodynamics: Courtroom Testimony" is now available on our site! Toxicologists, DREs, and police officers are frequently asked to testify on cases where alcohol is involved, so it's key to understand the pharmacodynamics involved. The instructor for this course, Dr. Curt Harper, goes into detail on the Dubowski table (pictured below), which correlates blood alcohol levels with the internal and external changes in the body and mind. He explains how the table has evolved over time and how to properly apply it to real cases. This allows learners to testify about both the abilities and limitations of the table in relation to forensic cases. Have a wonderful time learning!?

Monday Course of the Week! This week, we highlight the 4th course in our Core Concepts Series all about Cannabinoids. As this drug is immensely popular and one of the top drugs detected in forensic labs, it tops our list of most relevant videos on our site. This series will explore the effects of THC on the brain, its effects on driving, and how those can be important for forensic cases. The esteemed Dr. Marilyn Huestis explains the pharmacology of cannabinoids with its distribution and metabolism in wonderful detail. Dr. Erin Karschner helps us understand the interpretation/considerations taken with cannabinoids, and Sharon Kelley, PhD outlines the clinical effects of both naturally occurring cannabinoids and synthetic cannabinoids. We are excited for you to learn from this critically important course!?

This week, we highlight the 3rd course from our Core Concepts Series that instructs on the forensic toxicology, pharmacology, and clinical toxicology of an incredibly prolific class of drugs: opioids. Opioids is an umbrella term encompassing all natural, synthetic, and semi-synthetic compounds that bind to the opioid receptors in the brain. This term encompasses 1. naturally-occurring opiates like morphine and codeine 2. semi-synthetic compounds like hydrocodone and oxycodone 3. completely synthetic compounds like methadone and fentanyl As you explore this course, you'll learn about opioids' mechanism of action, how to identify these compounds in a laboratory, and the characteristics of many different opioids that make them unique from each other. We hope you enjoy this fabulous series!?
