3D Design -> Livable space The landscape design process is varied and unique to each project. Not every design needs a 3D model, but in some cases it's beneficial to get a clearer sense of what the end result will look like. This landscape was one such case. With lots packed into a small space, it was helpful to see a 3D approximation of what the flat design was communicating. The finished landscape may not look exactly like its 3D counterpart, but that's a good thing--because a livable space is always better.

Mentally, I'm here. 🌞 The long and winding road...to the patio. Ah, soon, soon it will be patio season, and who isn't excited for that? In the first photo, a patio makes use of a densely shaded spot in the landscape, shining a spotlight on an area that might otherwise be overlooked. In the second and third photos, a lakeside patio is ready for sun-soaked days and starry nights. Both of these patios feature fire pits, simple additions that instantly elevate the space and create more opportunities for fun memories.

Smile, you're on Candid Camera. 📸 Swipe to see what this space became! Working with a steep grade can present significant challenges in a landscape design. The question often becomes: how do you turn a steep hill into a usable space? Here, our team used a layered approach, building large retaining walls to create separate layers of the landscape. These walls are structural, adding much needed support, and the addition of plants helps to soften them and ties them to the surrounding greenery.

HBANM Home and Outdoor Living Show: ✔ Many thanks to all those who stopped to chat with us this weekend! This was our first time at the show in a few years, and it was a really fun experience--at least for this social media specialist. 😊 Getting to connect with so many members of the community in one place and network with other businesses made the time fly by. And, as a bonus, our booth display won two awards--Best In Show and Best Associate Display! 🥳 Shoutout to our booth designer, Marika (second to last picture), and all of those who worked on setup! Many thanks to the Home Builder's Association of Northern Michigan for all the work they do to support companies in the home and outdoor living industries. It was a great event, and our team is already thinking about next year!

What's this? A Transformation Tuesday? Swipe to see the "before"! This little island was in need of a serious refresh--nothing some thoughtful planting and hardscaping can't fix! Small trees, structural shrubs, and perennials create an eye-catching combination, dressing up this driveway turnaround and making a great first impression.

It's a Water Feature Wednesday! Keep swiping to keep zooming out on this waterfall. No man is an island, but this water feature is. Located between the main road and the driveway, this water feature elevates not just this house, but the whole street. Rather than just another swath of lawn, this small space hosts plenty of flowers, decorative grasses, and ornamental trees along with the impressive water feature. Stepping stones, strategically placed, turn this into an interactive feature, adding playfulness to the space. Photos by Chris Major.

It's just a phase 🌛 Sometimes a landscape project is done all at once, and sometimes it's completed in stages over time. This landscape falls in the second category, with different pieces coming together at different times. In this post, we're taking a walk down memory lane with the pool, which was built at the same time as the home. Now, it's surrounded by thick plantings and a flagstone path that leads from the nearby patio to the front of the home. Are you ready to move forward with the next phase of your landscaping project? Contact our team today to get started!
