Broader Consumer Base at Patel Brothers Patel Brothers, a prominent Indian grocery chain, is attracting a diverse clientele, including many non-South Asians eager to explore authentic Indian ingredients and products. Emergence of Regional Specialties Dishes like masala dosas and macher jhol are gaining popularity, moving beyond the ubiquitous chicken butter masala, and introducing Americans to the vast regional diversity of Indian cuisine. Innovative Indian Restaurant Concepts New dining establishments are redefining Indian cuisine in the U.S. For instance, EggHolic known for its egg-based Indian street food, has expanded to multiple locations, including Indianapolis. Similarly, Desi chowrasta offers a fusion of flavors from various regions of India, with locations across the country, including Indianapolis. Indian Food and Beverage Entrepreneurs in the Spotlight Entrepreneurs like Arshad Bahl of Amrita Health Foods Raina Kumra of Spicewell Arif ilahi Khan of @chikka chikka and Serena Rathi of Droosh are making significant strides in bringing authentic Indian flavors to the American market. Additionally, brands like Bollygood and Brooklyn Delhi are introducing innovative products that resonate with a wide audience. Recognition of Indian Cuisine’s Complexity There’s a growing acknowledgment that Indian cuisine encompasses much more than North Indian dishes. Its multifaceted flavors and spice profiles are being embraced by mainstream American audiences, with progressive distributors like Pod Foods facilitating wider availability. Pioneers Elevating Indian Culinary Arts Chefs like Asma Khan have played pivotal roles in bringing Indian cuisine to the forefront. Her appearances on platforms like “Chef’s Table” and her advocacy for women in kitchens have highlighted the cultural and culinary significance of Indian food. Growing restaurant base The increasing popularity of Indian cuisine in the U.S. is further evidenced by the growing presence of Indian restaurants and food products across the country. Estimates suggest that there are between 5,000 to 8,000 Indian restaurants nationwide, contributing to an industry revenue expected to reach $4.9 billion.     Excited to share that Droosh officially expanded its product line and launched two new hot sauces: Jalape?o Green Chutney and Sweet & Sour Mango Chutney! As a hot sauce fanatic, developing and launching these has been an incredible experience. Growing up in an Indian household, hot sauces weren’t typically part of our meals — we leaned on chutneys and achaar (pickled fruits or veggies like lemon or mango). But, honestly, I often found and still find myself craving something with a different kick. I would sometimes reach for classics like Tabasco or Sriracha, but neither hit the mark when paired with Indian flavors. I started thinking: how can Droosh create something that lets you skip the hassle of making homemade achaar or chutney, yet still delivers those bold, authentic flavors? Our hot sauces are a perfect complement to all your favorite Indian dishes, but versatile enough to elevate your everyday meals too. Our Jalape?o Green Chutney takes inspiration from the cilantro-mint chutney my grandma used to make, but with a spicy and tangy twist! It pairs beautifully with everything from traditional Indian dishes like okra, dal and aloo gobi, to everyday favorites like eggs, sandwiches, and grilled fish. Then there’s our Sweet & Sour Mango Chutney, a nod to my grandparents’ homemade mango achaar, but reimagined as a smoother, mess-free hot sauce, perfect for adding that bold, sour punch to any meal. Droosh is all about blending traditional Indian flavors for modern, untraditional kitchens. While I’m no chef, my passion for food and love for creating unique recipes that remind me of home drive everything I do. This journey hasn’t always been smooth, but thanks to the guidance of some amazing mentors and industry experts, I’ve been able to navigate the challenges that come with building something from scratch.
