Hyperlocal events pack a punch for the local economy! Last week, we had the pleasure of photographing the first concert of this year's Summerfest Concert Series in Northport – headlined by Liverpool Shuffle! And last month, we were thrilled to cover both Family Fun Nights, which took place in the heart of downtown Northport. What do both of these event series have in common? Well, they attract countless local residents who get to enjoy the festivities while supporting local businesses! Events like the Summerfest Concerts and Family Fun Night draw in crowds of people from both Northport and beyond. As these visitors stroll the scenic park and take in live music, they pop into local shops and dine at some of Northport's stellar restaurants – all of which require them to spend money. But, unlike visiting a chain store or restaurant, this money is directly funneled back into the local economy – helping Northport small businesses and, in turn, boosting the downtown experience for residents and visitors. So, by hosting hyperlocal events, community members aren't just brought together. They're also perfectly poised to support small businesses with their patronage. This month-long celebration – which started with the Pride Flag Raising Ceremony at Northport Village Hall – culminated in the joyful Northport Pridefest in The Park. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and brought residents together in the spirit of diversity, inclusion and unity. In addition to celebrating acceptance, love, and spreading the message that #allarewelcomehere, Pridefest also had a huge impact on the local Northport business community. The downtown area was flooded with both Northport residents and attendees from neighboring communities, who participated in the festivities and patronized Northport shops. All kinds of businesses – from restaurants and galleries to specialty shops – experienced boosted foot traffic and genuine customer engagement. This is a true testament to community events' positive impact on the local economy.
