Proud to see our CEO, Kat Cole, take the TED Conferences stage to share one of the leadership practices that has shaped her career. The Hot Shot Rule is simple, powerful, and now available to watch on TED.
Early in my career, I didn’t have access to as many external mentors or coaches as I wanted. I was leading global teams, making major business decisions, and trying to grow, but often felt like I was figuring it out with only internal perspectives. So I developed and honed a series of self coaching tools, including the Hot Shot Rule—a simple practice I’ve used weekly for almost two decades. Here’s how it works: I imagine someone I admire—another CEO, my mom, a friend, an inspiring leader in a field, a former colleague—stepping into my role. What would they see that I couldn’t? What would they change immediately? And what was stopping me from doing it right now? Once I have that clarity, I put it into action within 24 hours and tell the team involved. The practice became a way to see my role, responsibility, and opportunity with fresh eyes and day one energy, and act decisively.?It helps me at home and at work as CEO of AG1. In the fall, TED Conferences invited me to share this practice from the TED stage in my home city, Atlanta. The recording is now live on TED https://go.ted.com/katcole and I’m excited to finally share it more broadly. I hope the Hot Shot Rule helps you the way it has helped me.
