The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) works to inspire and promote excellence in teaching throughout Drexel’s diverse learning environments. As a university that values and celebrates experiential learning, Drexel knows that intentionally linking real-life experiences with highly effective learning environments is the key to stewarding today’s students into tomorrow’s community leaders. By investing in the University’s cohort of educators, we can ensure that every single student receives the most valuable, rigorous, experiential, technology-infused education possible. From its inception in the Fall of 2019, TLC has mobilized Drexel leaders and stakeholders to provide resources, information, training, and support to more than 1000 instructors at Drexel University, across almost every one of the university’s schools and colleges. With numerous vital roles within the Drexel University ecosystem, the TLC helps to: -Ensure positive student learning outcomes through evidence-based teaching -Support the specialized needs of new and part-time faculty hires -Implement teaching practices that accrediting bodies require -Increase the profile of teaching at Drexel through research and scholarship -Improve interdisciplinary communication and collaboration -Assist instructors in designing holistic learning experiences that integrate experiential learning

  • Friday Feature The Teaching and Learning Center recently teamed up with Drexel’s Steinbright Career Development Center to help Drexel faculty support students in developing professional skills and clarifying career goals. Here are some tips for instructors from our Steinbright colleagues: 1. Share career information? Professional associations are underutilized but powerful resources for networking and researching careers within any industry of interest. O*NET contains a database of more than 3,000 associations for students to join. Review these organizations with your students and check out https://lnkd.in/gCFM7JUD for more information! 2. Encourage self-discovery Encouragement from mentors and having confidence in their counsel are key factors in students' readiness to choose a specific career path, reducing feelings of decisional stress and improving their sense of employability. Have confidence in what you say to students, and they will have confidence in themselves! 3. Relate education to career success? ? 75% of recent college graduates polled in 2018 by Gallup (https://lnkd.in/e4eRRW7t) agreed or strongly agreed that they had a college professor or staff member encourage them to pursue their professional goals. Students often seek out professors with similar educational and professional backgrounds for advice or next steps for career readiness.??
