Gala Spotlight! MEET SHARON WALKER WHO BEGAN HER CAREER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN NEARLY 40 YEARS AGO, JOINING THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERNAL MEDICINE IN FINANCE. THE JOURNEY HAS LED HER THE CURRENT ROLE OF BUSINESS MANAGER FOR THE DIVISION OF NEPHROLOGY, WHERE SHE LEADS AND SUPERVISES THE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT TEAM. THE ROLE HAS BECOME A CORNERSTONE FOR KEY INSTITUTIONAL WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE WITHIN THE DIVISION. It’s always a pleasure spending time with Arshind Kaur especially when it’s for a great cause like helping women thrive thru Dress for Success Michigan.?Volunteering alongside my friends was an extra bonus.?Kathleen Turetzky can always be counted on for great ideas, and did so for our registration desk and Lyons Kim was a creative genius for our décor.?Dr. Sabrina Jackson was a delight and an inspiration as our keynote speaker as was demonstrated by the many standing ovations.?I’m really proud of the way the volunteer team came together to make for a great night.?Thank you Dress for Success Michigan and all the volunteers for your dedication and for making for a memorable evening.?It was amazing!??

AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SHE SAYS THAT SHE WAS WELCOMED BY A SUPPORTIVE EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TEAM AND VOLUNTEERS WHO WERE PASSIONATE ABOUT SERVING OUR COMMUNITY. TOGETHER, THEY TOOK A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO ADDRESSING SOCIAL ISSUES THAT IMPACT WOMEN. SHE PARTNERED WITH MAJOR COMPANIES, PRIVATE DONORS, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND LEADERS IN THE COMMUNITY TO DISCUSS STRATEGIC PLANNING, DELIVER SKILL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS, HOST AND ATTEND CLOTHING DRIVES, AND PROVIDE ACCESS TO PROFESSIONAL ATTIRE. Gala Spotlight! Meet Laura Chavez-Wazeerud-Din (Laura Chavez-Wazeerud-Din ), President and CEO of the Southwest Detroit Business Association. With a background as Vice President at Comerica Bank and AVP at Flagstar Bank, she dedicated over 25 years to supporting the BIPOC community. Driven by a lack of bilingual teachers in Detroit, she pursued a bilingual bicultural endorsement at Wayne State University. Her work spans organizations like Southwest Solutions, Mexican Town Community Development Corporation, The Henry Ford Health System, Family Assistance for Renaissance Men (F.A.R.M.), and New St Paul Head Start where she focused on health, financial literacy, and education.
