The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) was established by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., as a public charity supporting scholastic achievement, charitable and educational service programs, and research initiatives focused upon African American women. Today, DREF remains strong, vibrant, and poised to meet 21st century challenges with the same unwavering spirit and dedication the Sorority originally envisioned. Our charge to realize social and economic equality for future generations of African American women continues as our guiding principle.

  • DREF Call for Manuscripts Deadline Extended to April 4, 2025! The theme for the 2025 edition of PHILLIS DREF’s Scholarly Journals located in the Center for Research on African American has selected the theme: “From Access to Action: Amplifying Black Women’s Voices in Health Equity”— that will present scholarly perspectives on how Black women leverage their resources to address systemic barriers and drive meaningful change in health equity. Black women have consistently organized and mobilized to improve not only their own quality of life but also that of their communities, demonstrating resilience and leadership in the face of persistent challenges. DREF seeks to examine the spectrum of equity-based issues impacting Black women, within the following subject areas: Public health disparities; Organizational culture’s impact on the workforce; Social justice activism in the community; Mental health equity outcomes; Environmental justice and Educational equity.   • The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization established by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST) in 1967.?It operates as a separate entity to advance its mission of, “Identifying issues affecting Black women, their families, and communities of the African Diaspora globally, and creates solutions through research, programming, and funding in support of charitable and educational programs of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and other collaborative organizations.” DREF is seeking applicants for the Foundation’s Fractional Finance Manager position. ( 15-20 hours per week) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide oversight for the financial operations of the Foundation. - Oversight of the following financial operations: bank reconciliations, donor management and reconciliations, financial reports, fiscal compliance, credit card usage and reconciliation, fixed asset depreciation and payroll. - Ensure that accounts payable aging reports are prepared and vendor information for tax reporting purposes and financial documentation for transactions are maintained. - Ensure compliance with Finance Policies and Procedures Oversee the financial work of the Finance Team including the senior accountant, accountant, donor management and bookkeeper. - Approve all journal entries - Perform other financial related projects and duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS - A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required. Master’s degree in a business discipline preferred - The incumbent must possess strong financial analysis, problem solving, and analytical skills. The incumbent must also be comfortable with taking initiative and be creative and resourcefulness. - A working knowledge generally accepted accounting principle (GAAP). - Five to Eight years of finance experience. - Previous financial experience in a not- for- profit membership environment is required. - Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal. - Fluency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, Word and Power Point.   • DREF invites you to commemorate Black Love Day, observed annually on February 13th. Created in 1993 by Ayo Handy-Kendi, this day is dedicated to celebrating love, peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Black Love Day is intended for all people to exhibit love through action and not just words. What is Black Love Day about? - Black Love Day is a spiritual holiday that focuses on self-love, connection, and cultural preservation - It's an alternative to Valentine's Day, which focuses on romantic love - Black Love Day's rituals are based on five tenets: love for the creator, self, family, community, and Black people - It's a day to celebrate, atone, and offer forgiveness to oneself and others How is Black Love Day celebrated? - Participants demonstrate love for 24 hours - People can participate in Black community activities, support Black-owned businesses, and reflect on their racial attitudes - People can post on social media about their love for Black culture - People can display the Akoma, an Adinkra symbol representing love, patience, and endurance What are the goals of Black Love Day? - To encourage Black self-love, To increase peace to stop violence, - To promote racial healing, and To help heal disconnection and reconcile differences. #DST1913,#BlackLoveDay,#DREF,#AyoHandyKendi,#HeartMonth, #BlackHistoryisEveryMonth
