Dream Team Engineering is a group of engineering and non-engineering students alike that are dedicated to making novel technologies to enhance the lives of the patients at UF Health Shands, the surrounding Gainesville community, and beyond. Our team works alongside physicians, nurses, and child-life specialists to create engineering devices that positively impact the patient, doctor, and overall healthcare experience. Dream Team Engineering is currently composed of three branches: a design branch that focuses on utilizing 3D-modeling skills to build devices that encourage patient education, a software engineering branch that leverages programming skills to develop user-friendly medical applications, and a research branch that tests the efficacies of our projects being used in the hospital. We also have a shadowing program for freshmen and sophomore students.

A huge shoutout to DTE's Surgical Team for completing both of their surgical models this year! The Surgical Team successfully completed their third iteration of the kidney model and is set to collect research from residents as they begin using the model next semester. The kidney model will allow residents to practice suturing a donated kidney to the artery, vein, and bladder of a simplified patient model. These residents will be evaluated on the efficacy of their sutures and how they feel the model compares to current cadaveric procedures. The cholecystectomy model has finished its fourth iteration and is also set to begin use soon by the VA Hospital’s Da Vinci machine. A special shoutout to Jared Coleman for leading the Surgical Team as captain and to all of the Surgical Team members for all of their hard work!

Dream Team Engineering successfully held its 2nd Annual Exhibition Day at Shands! Members across all of our teams were able to showcase the projects that they have been working on this past year. Thank you to everyone who came out to the event, we greatly appreciate your support and interest and we hope you enjoyed learning more about how these projects have had a positive impact on the medical professionals, patients, and overall healthcare experience at Shands!

From intricate 3D printed hearts to lifelike brain models derived from real patient data, every detail is a testament to innovation at Mayo Clinic. 2 weeks ago, DTE members were given the opportunity to go to Mayo’s Jacksonville campus to hear a captivating presentation, tour their 3D Anatomical Modeling lab, and witness their high-tech 3D printers and machines in action. DTE is immensely grateful to Mayo Clinic for opening their doors to our members, offering a firsthand glimpse into the future of healthcare! A special thank you to Carleigh Eagle and team for hosting the tour!
