Grateful to everyone who joined us at SXSW for our workshop, #TheNext250 Years of America. Together, we explored big questions: ? What gives us hope for the future? ??? Can we truly find common ground? ?? How do we bridge divides in our communities, families, and workplaces? The conversation was rich, honest, and filled with energy for what’s possible. A special thank you to Rachel King, our Chief People Officer Dream.Org, and all of the incredible bridge-builders in the room—your insights and commitment to unity made this gathering unforgettable. I’m excited to keep building with all of you. Let’s write the next chapter—together. Some scenes from my #SXSW2025 below:

MAJOR WIN in Missouri ?? Last week, the Missouri Legislature passed an omnibus bill that modifies provisions relating to public safety, including the Informant Transparency Act! Too many people are in prison right now because of false testimonies given by someone with an incentive to lie. Informants, who are often facing incarceration themselves, are incentivized to lie in exchange for leniency or monetary benefits. Defense attorneys will now have access to information about repeat informants and the history of their testimonies. This will transform the lives of so many innocent people. This is a big win for Missourians and would not have been possible without the leadership of our Empathy Network leader, ML Smith of MISSOURIANS TO ABOLISH THE DEATH PENALTY!

Proud to see our Senior Director of Organizing and Partnerships, Sean Wilson, featured in the Wisconsin Examiner speaking out against AB 85—a proposed bill that would automatically recommend parole or probation revocation for any new offense, no matter how minor. This kind of policy undermines the core values of justice reform and second chances. As Sean powerfully stated: “Rather than implementing measures that may increase revocations, we urge the legislature to introduce and pass legislation that supports the successful reintegration of individuals in supervision—investing in education, job training, mental health, and substance abuse treatment to reduce recidivism and promote public safety.” At Dream.Org, we believe in rehabilitation over punishment—and in policies that build stronger, safer communities. ?? ?? In 2022, women-led startups received 1.9% of venture capital funding, and women of color received 0.39%, with Black women making only a fraction of that. ?????? In fact, Black women are starting businesses faster than any demographic in the country. Yet, only 3% of Black women-led businesses last up to five years. We’re proud to support women entrepreneurs through our Dream Entrepreneur Network, but there is more work for us to do!

The EPA and Citibank illegally froze federal programs that are driving investment to communities across the U.S. This threatens hundreds of local projects that are already underway that will generate an estimated $2.7 billion in clean energy savings, $866 million+ in local economic benefits, and over 49,000 jobs. And these programs are just getting started. We support Climate United in taking them to court. https://lnkd.in/ebQw_cPT

Today, we’re filing in court to unfreeze our funds. This is?not a step we wanted to take. We would prefer to work with the EPA to chart a productive path forward. We are hopeful for a quick resolution so we can continue to do the job that we were hired to do —?and one that our coalition has over 120 years of combined experience doing: deliver clean energy savings, jobs, and economic growth to communities across America.? ? Now let’s get to work. https://lnkd.in/eVEfTBMi
