??? This past Saturday, my cousin Anthony Miller and I set out on a mission—to retake a special photo of our grandfathers, with my daughter Alyxandria as our photographer. ????? ?? My Grandpa Albert Locklear was born on May 23, 1932, to David Andrew Locklear and Nancy Locklear. He passed away on October 24, 2006. ????? ?? Anthony’s Grandpa, Winferd Cox, was born on July 29, 1927, to Alfred Cox and Lolar Strickland Cox. He was the brother of my Grandma Dorothy (Albert's wife) , and he passed away on February 22, 1998. ????? ?? Retaking this picture in the exact location where our grandfathers once stood was truly special. It was a powerful way to honor their legacy and keep their memory alive. ??? ?? The American Indian Policy Institute (AIPI), in partnership with Tufts University, is thrilled to announce the Spring 2025 Indigenous Leadership Academy (ILA) cohort! This unique leadership program focuses on emerging leaders. Twenty-five out of sixty-two applicants have been accepted into the cohort. The participants represent 18 tribes across 11 states, and all have demonstrated a strong passion for working with and for Indigenous communities. Past cohorts have explored themes such as imposter syndrome, sovereignty, the Supreme Court, and Native Vote. This cohort will focus on education. We are excited to have such a diverse group of participants, and the AIPI looks forward to seeing the remarkable contributions this cohort will make. The Indigenous Leadership Academy's continued success is due to the unwavering support of its sponsors: Arizona Public Service - APS, JPMorganChase, Salt River Project, Wells Fargo, the The National Center For American Indian Enterprise Development, and the National Congress of American Indians.
