Don’t miss out, come snag a Tap & Drill chart for your office or shop wall!

More free engineering resources!! This month the Drafter team has made a clear and concise Tap N’ Drill chart to hang next to your GD&T guide. Don’t get burned by small mistakes like having the incorrect hole sizes on a drawing or calling out the wrong thread. Use this table for both metric and unified threads to ensure your parts are made correctly on the first try. I still remember the first time my parts came in with clearance holes instead of tapped drill diameters. A painful lesson to spend extra hours on every hole callout, no matter how many there are on the drawings. Use this free poster, your manager (and your machinist) will thank you! The TapN’Drill Chart can be found at the link in the comments below. Tag someone who will gain value out of having this on their office/shop wall! ______________________________________________________________ My name is Chris Barton, co-founder of Drafter, a software platform changing the way hardware is designed and manufactured. I want to build a world where a single mechanical engineer can design a system with 10,000 parts in just a few days. And with the press of a button, automatically sent to the best manufacturing process for that specific part, and fabricated with little to no human involvement. Unfortunately, current practice is much more manual and error-prone. Additive manufacturing has given us a glimpse: where you can design something, hit print, and hold it in your hands hours later. Now, imagine that same seamless process applied to volume scale processes; metal, ceramic, and everything in between. A world where manufacturing is faster, more efficient, and seamlessly connected to design. That’s the future Drafter is empowering. Where engineers design faster, with fewer resources, at lower costs without compromising manufacturability. Because hardware builds the world. And it’s time we build it better. ___________________________________________________________ My name is Chris Barton, co-founder of Drafter, a software platform changing the way hardware is designed and manufactured. When 99% of engineers agree on a pain point, you know you’ve struck a nerve. We’ve interviewed hundreds of mechanical engineers about Drafter. Only two disagreed with the need for a better way to handle documentation and risk reduction. One of them even came back later and admitted they changed their mind. The reality is the work we’re automating isn’t the fun part of engineering, it's the necessary part. And that’s why it resonates. Its more than eliminating the mundane work, we have education built directly into the tool to help inform engineers about the nuances of GD&T, the tolerance zones and how they communicate design intent. Drafter isn’t just making their work easier, it’s making them better engineers. From medical devices to automotive, from energy systems to aerospace, the problem is the same. If you’re designing something mission-critical, we can help. For the engineers out there, what’s the biggest friction point in your workflow today?

WOW!! Love seeing the excitement around GD&T! This is exactly the pain we are solving at Drafter by automating 2D GD&T drawings. Over my career as a mechanical engineer, there were some aspects of the job that frustrated me, with the inefficiencies of GD&T drawings being at the top of the list. It is such a crucial part of the process and is often one of the most overlooked. Peter Atkin and I met and immediately aligned on a better vision of the world and that was the start of Drafter. Our current product automates GD&T drawings with a +90% reduction in time! These drawings are standardized to each organization and are accurate following ASMEY14.5-2018. -If you are in need of extra support with GD&T, general drawings, or DFM, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. -If automated drawings sound beneficial to you or your team, sign up for a demo at drafterinc.com I appreciate everyone's patience, I am cranking through all the requests to make sure everyone can have the cheatsheet ASAP! ________________________________________________ My name is Chris Barton, co-founder of Drafter, a software platform changing the way hardware is designed and manufactured. Every mechanical engineer needs to print out this free GD&T guide and hang it on a wall near your desk. Don't let GD&T be a confusing black box! I’ve been there: middle of the night, screen blazing holes into your eyeballs as you decide how to make fabrication drawings for a complicated part. You know GD&T is important, but your caffeinated brain can’t recall which symbol to use in this particular instance. Wouldn’t it be easier to just use linear dimensions and count on the manufacturer to interpret the drawing? Fast forward a few weeks: your parts don’t fit, you're behind schedule, and now you have to make a new drawing :( This process repeats for every part in the assembly!!! After hundreds of hours creating ASME Y14.5-2018 compliant drawings, our team at Drafter has synthesized the need-to-know GD&T info into a handy, quick reference sheet. And we want to give it to you for free! A big thank you to our advisor and friends R. Dean Odell and Jim Beary, GDTP-S, PMP for providing feedback throughout this process and for being constant champions and thought leaders in this space! In this cheatsheet, I cover everything an engineer or designer needs to confidently apply GD&T principles to their work: + A clear breakdown of GD&T symbols and their meanings. + How to use the symbols effectively to communicate design intent. + A comprehensive GD&T checklist to ensure your drawings meet industry standards. + How to verify features and tolerances with practical inspection techniques. + What each symbol controls and how to leverage them for optimal functionality and manufacturability. Here's how to get the cheatsheet: 1. Like this post 2. Comment below 3. Send me a connection request (can't DM it to you otherwise) ___________________________________________________________ My name is Chris Barton, co-founder of Drafter, a software platform changing the way hardware is designed and manufactured. Suppliers aren’t mind readers. The fastest way to align with suppliers? Make your GD&T drawings clear and complete. ? Sketch out a clean 2D GD&T drawing ? Mark what’s critical for function - dimensions, tolerances, the works ? Send it early - communicate directly ? Then double-check The clearer you are, the smoother things go. Less back-and-forth, less surprises, less headaches. Check out this tip from Chris Barton, Co-Founder & CEO Drafter
