Due to the current energy crisis, the EU is reaching a critical point in the energy transition with the Clean Energy Package. Residential demand response (DR) is a promising approach that can significantly contribute to such a transition, but its potential is yet untapped. In this framework, DR-RISE's main objective is to demonstrate the benefits of DR in the residential sector, not only for the end-consumers but for the overall energy system and the actors involved and promote it. Accordingly, DR-RISE will further develop a holistic set of tools and services with a twofold objective: increasing energy efficiency via optimal management and demonstrating DR schemes' benefits (not only economic).

This highlights the transformative power of energy communities—citizen-led initiatives that drive social and technical innovation, reduce energy bills and enhance the EU’s industrial potential. ? Last week on the 14th of January 2025, our DR-RISE consortium met in Brussels, hosted by smartEn Smart Energy Europe, for the first review meeting and for our third General Assembly. The meeting was an occasion to share and discuss the project' progresses as well as planning the way forward.
On the 11th of December 2024, as part of the?Tech Impact?workshop, STAM organized a dedicated session focused on?Demand Response (DR)?strategies in the energy sector. This special event aimed to create awareness among Italian organizations committed to advancing innovative solutions for flexible energy consumption and grid stability. This concept, first coined by Toffler (1980), merges "producer" and "consumer," highlighting the shift toward creating and using our own energy for a sustainable future. ?? As global energy systems evolve, prosumerism stands at the forefront of decentralization, community-driven energy, and a more democratic approach to production and consumption. We are glad to say that our DR-RISE project research supported the preparation and publication of the paper. "How can energy prosumerism align with sufficiency and justice principles?
