Pleased to announce the third annual Dr. Kallam Anji Reddy Memorial Lecture on March 15, 2025. This year, we are delighted to have the distinguished oncologist, Prof. Ashok Venkitaraman (Director of the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore & Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore) to deliver this year’s Memorial Lecture. Prof. Venkitaraman is known for his pioneering contributions in the understanding of genomic instability leading to inherited cancers, and discovery of mutations in breast and ovarian cancer gene BRCA2. Our Chief Guest, Dr. Gullapalli Nageswara Rao (Founder, L. V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad) will be present to deliver a keynote session at the Memorial Lecture. Sakshi Sharma grew up in a small village in Himachal Pradesh, India. In her own words, "amidst stereotypes and financial struggles". Sakshi studied in her local village school. Her family was keen to support her and borrowed money to fund her school education. With the help of our Sashakt Scholarship run in collaboration with Dr Reddy's Foundation that helps girls from under-privileged backgrounds pursue education in STEM fields, Sakshi went on to study at the prestigious St. Stephen's College, Delhi and received her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with a 9.87 CGPA. Sakshi became the first from her family to attend university. We are proud to share that today, Sakshi is reading for a Doctorate in Philosophy (D. Phil) in Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford! Nisha Rana Thakur and Indu Bala, our colleagues in our formulation unit in Baddi, India, make us and their families proud everyday. They overcame hurdles and disproved stereotypes to pursue their passion. Nisha is part of Quality Assurance while Indu is a team leader in Manufacturing. Both colleagues were part of our Self-Managed Teams (SMT) programme. We started SMT in the early 2000s to recruit and skill youth with 10+2 qualifications (high school) to create employability in rural areas closest to our sites. In their own words, Nisha and Indu tell us what helped them succeed in what are seen as 'non-traditional roles' for women - the opportunities, the allies, the self-belief. ? With each story, we hope that equity becomes the rule rather than an exception. Each person's story is an opportunity for us to find inspiration and become an ally to someone else.
