First we had phishing, then we got smishing and vishing, but have you heard of quishing? QR code scams are becoming increasingly popular and many people are falling victim to them. What you think is just a harmless QR code, could be the first step to becoming a cyberattack victim. Be sure you are triple checking that the QR codes you are scanning do NOT have a suspicious sticker on top of them. In many cases, scammers are adding these stickers to legitimate QR codes used to do mundane tasks such as ordering food, parking your car, etc. For reference, here is an example of a devious QR Code Sticker: https://lnkd.in/g6GDhs-p Regardless, you should always be sure that the QR code you are scanning is (1) from a trusted source, (2) something you actually need to access, and (3) not covered by a #suspectQRcode sticker. Cyber Insurance policies are increasingly critical to business operations, but do they also play a role in the ransomware ecosystem which facilitates bad actors and malicious hacking groups? Ann Neuberger, the US Deputy National Security Adviser for Cyber and Emerging Technology, wrote a piece earlier this month addressing this very question. She added that "since 2021, the US government alone has identified more than 4,900 ransomware attacks with at least $3.1bn paid out in ransoms."
