Did you know that the founder of Nike, Phil Knight, is a CPA? Before Blue Ribbon Sports, which later became Nike, flourished and became successful, Phil worked as a CPA. In fact, the first firm he worked for was Cooper & Lybrand, before moving to PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Then, he became an accounting professor at Portland State University. Once Nike took off, he assumed the role of CEO and Founder. So, why am I telling you this? Just because you start in a profession, like Knight did in accounting, doesn’t mean you have to stay there forever. Many times, people are under the impression that if they go into a career field, that’s it for them. Just like Phil Knight, you can be whatever you want to… especially when your background is in accounting. If you’re an accountant feeling stuck in your profession, please remember you have options.
