Walton had the incredible opportunity to spread the holiday cheer on NBC4 Washington with Molette Green this past weekend. This segment highlighted all of the new bells and whistles of this year’s market and all the wonderful experiences waiting for our community. Being featured on NBC4 is not just an exciting moment for our team—it’s a huge win for our amazing vendors, who work tirelessly to bring their crafts, food, and unique goods to our community. This year, we’re proud to host more vendors than ever before, with 90% representing BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous, women-owned, and locally owned businesses. Having this platform amplified on such a prominent news outlet is a meaningful opportunity to showcase their creativity, passion, and hard work. We are so proud to share that the DowntownDC Foundation has been awarded a $25,000 grant from Pepco and Sustainable Maryland through their 2024 Sustainable Communities Grants Program! This generous funding will go towards installing solar-powered kiosks in the #DowntownDC green space John Marshall Park. These kiosks will not only provide charging stations for visitors but also feature built-in planters to enhance air quality, adding a fresh, green touch to our urban environment. There's nothing quite like the energy that comes from having the whole team fully aligned. Strategy sessions are key to building a strong team. They help ensure everyone is on the same page and moving towards the same goals. But it’s not just about sticking to the agenda—it's about creating an environment where team members feel comfortable being open, honest, and focused. Let's be real,'strategy session' might sound a bit... boring, but trust us, they don’t have to be! We took ours offsite to a stylish spot called The Mark Wonder Bread Factory, enjoyed some great snacks, and mixed in some fun activities to strengthen our bonds. In her first month with the DowntownDC BID, Avery Prescott hit the ground running, diving into all the amazing work happening in Downtown D.C and the BID world ??. On Day 1, we hooked Avery up with some exclusive DowntownDC BID swag and merch to rock all year long! And during the corporate staff meeting, all staff members wrote her personalized advice for success! During her second week, Avery had the opportunity to fly to Seattle for the International Downtown Association Conference, where she gained valuable insights into the impactful work BIDs are doing worldwide. She also got to exercise her creativity by filming and photographing the conference, capturing key moments of the event. Back in D.C., Avery took part in a walking tour of the district, getting her first glimpse of the vibrant streets and learning about the BID’s culture of community support and sustainability. Alongside her director and team, she gained first-hand knowledge about the basics of the BID and the significant impact their work has on the community. As her first month wraps up, we hope Avery is proud to call the DowntownDC BID her professional home. We hope she will find a sense of community, passion, and purpose and that each day is exciting and fulfilling. Mark’s a pro when it comes to urban design, real estate development, and making public spaces come to life. He’s here to help revitalize the Downtown core in this post-COVID world, bringing his unique blend of private-sector experience and academic know-how to tackle everything from multifamily construction to creative, place-based marketing. We can’t wait to see how his fresh ideas take shape! Before joining us, Mark was rocking with the?Golden Triangle BID, where he led some major projects in the Downtown West area and was a part of the Downtown Action Plan team. He also helped reimagine the historic Walter Reed campus, managing everything from new apartments to dog parks and playgrounds. Mark is all about creating vibrant, community-focused spaces, and he brings that passion to DowntownDC.
