The historic heart and modern-day pulse of San Francisco | The CBD serving Jackson Square & the Financial District.
关于我们
Downtown SF Partnership is the newest Community Benefit District in San Francisco and was formed in January 2020. Developed by a coalition of property and business owners, the District includes two of the oldest continuous business districts in the City (Financial District and Jackson Square) and funds special benefit services over and above what the City already provides including cleaning and safety services, mobility management, public realm improvements and beautification, and marketing. OUR MISSION We lead the way in building a thriving downtown where business gets done, people feel welcome, come to explore, and make memories. We’re a nonprofit community benefit district working to enhance the downtown core, the traditional Financial District and historic Jackson Square through public/private partnerships, placemaking, activating the public realm, clean and safe operations, marketing support and more. OUR VISION Downtown San Francisco is The City's economic powerhouse and historic core, continually redefining what makes our city vibrant, resilient, and welcoming. OUR VALUES Collaborative -- We harness the power of partners; the most enduring innovative and nuanced solutions are when partners work together, building long-term solutions around a common goal. Entrepreneurial -- Our spirit and a way of doing things that leans into being nimble, pivoting quickly, and taking calculated risks to advance or defend innovative ideas. Impactful -- We're strategic and thoughtful in our work and leverage opportunities that amplify our work and lead to substantive changes for the District. Curiosity -- We know what's authentic and distinctive about our downtown and we celebrate it.

Downtown San Francisco is on life support. When I first began drafting a brief for a new urban design studio at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, focused on reimagining Downtown San Francisco, I originally led with a stark line. At the time, this felt accurate—post-pandemic challenges had left a visible mark. But as I engaged with people working at the heart of the city's recovery, I was encouraged to rethink that opening. Eventually, someone very close to the situation suggested I change the opening, and I am glad I did. Downtown San Francisco is getting back on its feet. After spending time in San Francisco with my students a few weeks ago, this line much better describes this moment in the city's history. During our week crisscrossing downtown, we saw firsthand how much energy and commitment fuel the city’s ongoing transformation, contrary to the narrative. Work needs to be done, but the depth and breadth of initiatives underway shaping downtown’s future are nothing short of inspiring. I’m immensely grateful to our studio sponsors, the Downtown SF Partnership and BOMA San Francisco, for making these conversations possible. Special thanks to Claude Imbault, David Harrison, John Bryant, and Anne Hill for empowering us to tackle this critical challenge head-on. More heartfelt appreciation to?cathy simon?and?Gerry Tierney,?who helped connect the studio to an amazing group of practitioners, thinkers, and policymakers continuously working on evolving the city. San Francisco is fortunate to be a hub for innovative thinking, and the efforts of all who we encountered demonstrate that while the city’s uniqueness requires a tailored approach, there are valuable lessons here for cities everywhere. Since returning to Cambridge, the students have been responding to what they experienced through design interventions, frameworks, and visions for the district. I'm extremely excited to work with them on this challenge and demonstrate that we all have the ability to show what an amazing place Downtown San Francisco can be.
