We are thrilled by the City Council’s appointment of Kimberly Bizor Tolbert as permanent city manager after her exceptional leadership in an interim capacity since April. She has already made a remarkable impact, dedicating resources to the Street-to-Home initiative, which has housed 150 individuals experiencing homelessness in Downtown. She delivered a balanced budget while achieving additional savings through department realignments and consolidations. Her efforts also brought in a strong lineup of executive leaders, enhancing city operations. A Downtown resident with boundless energy and optimism, Kim has been a constant presence and an engaged partner with DDI, including sharing insights during our State of Downtown event in October. We’re excited to continue our partnership with Kim and her incredible team as we work together to advance Downtown Dallas! #myDTD #DowntownDallas https://lnkd.in/gGEbW6hZ

Last week, the Dallas City Council approved two major design contracts, marking significant progress in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center transformation: Gensler (one of our member companies) was awarded $25.1M to renovate the Dallas Memorial Auditorium, the future home of the WNBA Dallas Wings. KAI Enterprises received $22.2M to reimagine The Black Academy of Arts and Letters space. Both teams achieved impressive minority and women-owned business participation rates and will collaborate with project managers McKissack & McKissack and another one of our member companies Dikita Enterprises, Inc. These contracts are a vital step toward creating a world-class Convention Center district that will shape the next chapter of Downtown Dallas! #DowntownDallas #ConventionCenterTransformation #myDTD #DDIMembers

Congratulations to Kimberly Bizor Tolbert on her appointment as Dallas city manager by the City Council earlier today. I have personally enjoyed working with Kim and loved getting to interview her on stage at last year's Downtown Dallas, Inc. State of Downtown. Kim Tolbert cares deeply about this city that she has chosen to serve for decades and she is proud of the fact that she lives in Downtown Dallas. She has been an extremely accessible and responsive partner. She sets a tone of accountability and urgency that has shifted the culture at Dallas City Hall. We are energized to continue our strong partnership with Kim and her team.

I'm thrilled to share that Downtown Dallas, Inc.'s Rico Roberts is our 2024 Employee of the Year. Since joining DDI in 2006, Rico (pictured at right with DDI Chief of Public Safety & Field Operations Larry Gordon) has demonstrated exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to Downtown safety. As our Intelligence Analyst & Law Enforcement Liaison, he founded the groundbreaking DDI Impact Offenders Program, which has transformed how we address repeat criminal activity in Downtown. With his meticulous documentation and vast database, Rico helps solve Downtown crimes and ensures repeat offenders are convicted and sentenced appropriately. His collaboration with the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas County District Attorney's Office has led to the identification and prosecution of 51 suspects across 56 offenses since 2019. This July, Rico earned his Dallas Police Department Fusion Liaison certification, enabling him to work directly with DPD's Real-Time Crime Center to identify suspects and solve crimes in real time. Please join me in congratulating Rico on this well-deserved recognition.

Last week, despite freezing temperatures, our DDI Field Teams worked tirelessly to help Downtown Dallas weather the arctic blast. Starting Sunday, our Homeless Outreach Team launched an early response, helping 44 individuals—including a family with two small children—find shelter. They distributed thermal kits, hats, gloves, and blankets while coordinating with the Office of Homeless Solutions to transport people to warming centers. The team also facilitated several Homeward Bound reunifications, reconnecting individuals with family and support systems. Then last Thursday and Friday, the Inclement Weather Team activated, continuing wellness checks, coordinating transportation assistance, and clearing icy pathways throughout Downtown. Our Clean Team worked to ensure safe access to businesses, clear park pathways, and manage frozen debris across the district. We are so proud of their efforts to keep Downtown safe and supportive, even in the toughest conditions. #myDTD #DowntownDallas
