At Down Home NC, we're grieving the national election outcome and experiencing deep concern about what the future holds for the people we love. As we grieve, we are also celebrating our working class members who fought, ran, won, and protected millions of North Carolinians from radical extremists. Even as we come to grips with the election of Trump, those of us at Down Home have grasped one undeniable truth: our organizing works. Sending a very special thank you to all of the Down Home member candidates who made the major decision to run for office. Whether or not you won your race, you work in this election is a tremendous gift to your community. When you dare to lead, you become open to criticism and feedback from every and all direction. In today's political climate, this can be incredibly difficult at times. As a member of Down Home, your willingness to take this step provides a lesson and inspiration for us all. We will learn and grow from this experience and use the knowledge you've gained to keep working for rural working class people of all races. We are grateful.

As we reflect on the work we've done during this election season, we want to thank each and every one of our members from the bottom of our hearts. We know that today may feel heavy for some on the federal level; we may not have gotten the results we hoped for, but that doesn’t take away from the tremendous wins we achieved here in North Carolina. Together, through the work of our members, our canvassers, our phone bankers, and hundreds of volunteers, we protected the governor’s house. We defended our public schools. And we held off the supermajority and secured a veto, which will protect so much of what we’ve fought for these past seven years. These are no small victories — they represent the power we have when we come together to build something bigger than ourselves. And because of the work you’ve put in — the time, the energy, the heart — we are moving forward, stronger than before. #BuildingPower
