Our technical staff often visit project sites, but it’s rare for one to be in a beautiful #NationalPark. Cameron Sapp, George Collins, and Emily Anderson from our Environmental Practice Area spent two weeks doing a wetland delineation in Glacier National Park. Here are their favorite moments from the trip: “Being lucky enough to experience the rugged beauty of Glacier National Park while doing what I love was the pinnacle of my environmental career thus far. Being able to work with my peers from afar was also a huge benefit. Keep chasing these interesting projects!” – George Collins “The best part of the trip was the incredible scenery and abundant wildlife. I always enjoy fieldwork in different regions to encounter new vegetation but this time, the best part was watching male big-horn sheep butting heads just a few hundred feet off the trail.” – Emily Anderson “I enjoyed working with a diverse group from different geographic and project backgrounds. Happy #GISDay! Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are designed to collect, store, edit, analyze, and present spatial data. At DOWL, we use GIS across all company platforms to aid in decision making for infrastructure planning, resource management, and public outreach. We recently helped the City of Kotzebue update its city address map. DOWL’s GIS team began by field-verifying every detail and then used the collected data to develop an ArcGIS Online map. This map has since become the backbone for numerous City projects, from flood management to coastal protection, and water and sewer improvements. #DOWLies Matt Mettler, Andy Mattie, and Stephan Bradley, aka the DOWL Billings Old Guys Motorcycle Team as they like to call themselves, went out for a light enduro ride on a near-perfect first day of fall in Elk Basin. ??? ?? ?? We are told this area has spectacular views of shifting tectonic plates. Geologically, it is a breached anticline formed by a deep subsurface thrust fault and most of the rocks at the surface are Cretaceous in age. The National Breast Cancer Foundation reports that more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024.
