The vulnerability of accepting help and the vulnerability of having conversations with aging parents that make your 6 year old self want to hide under the covers. Navigating this new way of living is more gray than black and white, and the hardest part is starting the conversation. Instead of avoiding these tough talks, we're building a way to soften the ask. For care recipients to maintain autonomy and direct their care. For caregivers to support each other in a collaborative way- with no default caregiver left holding the bag. It's different. The challenge in building a family caregiver platform is understanding how intricate (and fast moving) the mental gymnastics are for family caregivers. The processing a caregiver goes through to keep everything at the top of the list, in sync, and addressing the needs of multiple people, is intertwined with everything else we need to do in the day. Getting out of the house in the morning, getting to and through the work day, the after school rush and the evening routine. Our "present" and forward thinking experience of time and activities are constantly being leap frogged between. Improving communication and creating a platform that is more intuitive and connected than anything else on the market has been a journey and we are happy to announce the app launch for Dovetail? will be, next month, March 2025! Today I was asked: "Why are people going to use a platform like this one instead of firing off a text or email when they get a phone call about a crisis with a loved one at 2am?" Because the last thing we do when that happens is take in information. We are so quick to reach out and let those that need to know something has happened, but the details get lost in repetition. If you've ever experienced the 2am phone call from a family member, or been the family member, you know the phone tree that follows is the best way for chaos to ensue. Yes, make the calls, but put the info in one place for those on the receiving end of the calls to have a reference point.... and so you don't have to repeat all the details. Let's use tech to make things simpler. One of the things I've noticed after a few dozen episodes, besides how incredible these women are, is the drive to make their mission approachable and accessible to help support and lift up others. Getting myself ready for the week was one thing... Managing the details for the kids was a whole other level. The logistics are endless and the pressure is so very real. At the beginning of the pandemic I had one kid in school, and one in preschool. Our transition out of virtual/remote school many months later meant sending 2 kids in full time, another in preschool, and a toddler. The stuff really hit the fan then. I had to take it one week at a time. Yes, it's important to have a long range plan, but the day to day details are what keep the ball rolling (or not). The Dovetail? Weekly Notepad does just that. It keeps the week in focus and integrates seamlessly with the rest of the Collection, getting the details in place in bite size chunks.
