  • U.S. Forest Sustainability in the 21st Century: Strengthening Families, Communities, and Livelihoods Report Sustainably managed forests play a key role in addressing some of today’s most pressing challenges. Forests are essential to the growth of a circular, more bio-based economy and contribute to healthier communities and a more equitable built environment. Forests also provide crucial natural climate solutions. Sustainable forest management helps tackle issues such as affordable housing, workforce development, human health, youth engagement and education, and can support creation of more resilient infrastructure. For the past 30 years, certification has served as a benchmark for forest sustainability. Where accessible, certification auditing has become a valued tool. However, newer, more advanced systems for risk assessment, data analysis, and public reporting now offer more accessible and effective solutions. These modernized approaches ensure sustainability across the landscape without imposing the cost and technical barriers that hinder supply chain transparency and perpetuate marketplace inequities. Special thanks to the Forest Landowners Foundation and the US Forest Service for support and collaboration. Read the report: https://lnkd.in/ez3GCGbz

  • Check out key takeaways from our previous intern's report on "The Intersection of Social Marketing, Social Media, AI, and Forestry: Opportunities for New Impacts and Better Outcomes". -By identifying and understanding the audience, conservationists can tailor their messages to the needs, motivations, and behaviors of their target audience. Without social marketing and audience identification strategies, forest conservation programs oftentimes only reach the already engaged landowners. -A study conducted by the USDA Forest Service, focused on grouping family forest owners based on their levels of engagement and their reasons for owning forested land. The study grouped the landowners into four groups: woodland retreat, working the land, supplemental income, and ready to sell owners. -The Tools for Engaging Landowners Effectively (TELE) program has more than a dozen examples of successful forestry-based social marketing campaigns from across the United States. -This paper identified the many opportunities for audience engagement, including customers and others throughout the supply chain, and also the risks of missing new markets if a social marketing strategy is not embraced. • Our former intern, Moira Daley, completed a project paper titled, “The Intersection of Social Marketing, Social Media, AI, and Forestry: Opportunities for New Impacts and Better Outcomes.” Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eTpmjtjs This paper explores the application of social marketing techniques to forestry, including conservation efforts with family forest landowners. Additionally, quickly developing technologies like social media and artificial intelligence (AI) can further the impacts of social marketing by fostering an interactive dialogue and community between the audience and the marketer and accelerated learning. This analysis highlights the future possibilities for social marketing and social media to advance forestry conservation outreach and landowner and community behavioral change efforts. Social marketing has previously been researched by Dovetail Partners, and this paper is a continuation and update to the earlier research. #SocialMarketing #familyforestlandowners #socialmedia
