?? Honoring the Fredericksburg Frogs ? We’re incredibly proud to have played a role in uncovering the history of the Fredericksburg Frogs, an all-Black baseball team that took the field from 1919 through the 1930s. These players—barbers, porters, even doctors—shared a passion for the game and left their mark on the community. Now, thanks to the Fredericksburg Nationals, Fredericksburg Area Museum and Germanna Community College, their story is stepping back into the spotlight. The FredNats are honoring the Frogs with a new alternate identity and uniforms, inspired by the team once called “the world’s hoppinest team.” Our team at Dovetail/Mead & Hunt dug deep into historic newspapers, oral histories, and old maps, even using GIS technology to locate long-lost ballfields. Along the way, we uncovered 68 names of real players, and we’re still piecing together their full story—including whether they won the 1922 Mid-Atlantic League championship! This is more than just baseball—it’s about recognizing a legacy that deserves to be remembered. We’re honored to be part of it. #FredericksburgFrogs #BlackBaseballHistory #HistoricPreservation #DovetailCRG #MeadHunt #FredNats #BaseballHistory Read More: https://lnkd.in/e9-qSc6B

Scratching the Surface of History: Scratch-Blue Stoneware in Delaware Why was scratch blue stoneware so popular in the 18th century? And why did it show up in such high numbers at a recent archaeological dig in Sussex County, Delaware? Dovetail Archaeologists have been busy uncovering pieces of history—literally! Their latest excavation revealed a surprising number of scratch blue teawares, a budget-friendly but stylish alternative to expensive Chinese porcelain. The artifacts found tell a story of the residents, who likely wanted to participate in the growing culture of the tea ceremony, without the hefty price tag. Explore the findings and the history behind scratch blue stoneware in our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/e8DvHSvK #Archaeology #ScratchBlue #ArtifactDiscovery #PreservingHistory #CulturalResourceManagement #DovetailCRG #HistoricCeramics #18thCenturyLife

It’s National Inspire Your Heart With Art Day. As archaeologists, we often rely on art to tell the stories of our past. Whether it’s carvings, murals, or textiles, artistic expressions give us a glimpse into the lives, beliefs, and cultures of those who came before us. One of the most famous examples is the Bayeux Tapestry, a nearly 1,000-year-old embroidered chronicle of the Norman Conquest and the fall of England’s last Anglo-Saxon king, Harold II. This richly embroidered work of art details the events of 1066 in intricate detail. Now, history unfolds again with the recent discovery of what is believed to be King Harold’s home—a site that may reveal more about his world, from the architecture that surrounded him to the artistry that defined his time. What ancient artwork has left a lasting impression on you? #InspireYourHeartWithArt #Archaeology #CulturalHeritage #BayeuxTapestry #KingHaroldII #PreservingHistory #DovetailCRG
