We LOVE our wildlife in Douglas County! Today, March 3, we can join the whole world in appreciating the other living things that share our spinning globe on World Wildlife Day! This day was established by the United Nations to “celebrate wild animals and plants and recognize the unique roles and contributions of wildlife to people and the planet.” Wildlife is key to the richness of our lives and one of the top conservation values of DLC-stewarded land. Conservation easements, like those held by DLC, are important for protecting habitat for species like elk and mule deer, and for maintaining the landscape connections and corridors critical to wildlife. DLC holds conservation easements on over 28,000 acres of public and private land. Enjoy this compilation of photos from photographer Michael Ryno, as well as some remote camera photos of creatures on Douglas County Open Spaces! https://lnkd.in/gD8HRrwX

Protecting the land. Protecting the future.
关于我们
Douglas Land Conservancy (DLC) is a nonpolitical, nonprofit land trust dedicated to the protection and conservation of the natural character, habitat, ecosystems and open space of Douglas County and other areas within the central Front Range region of Colorado. Formed by concerned community members in 1987, DLC has primarily served the Douglas County region. However, recognizing the importance of a regional approach in land conservation DLC has since broadened its focus to include surrounding counties including Jefferson and Elbert. Today, we are actively preserving over 28,000 acres in Douglas, Jefferson and Elbert Counties through conservation easements. Our work is made possible because of generous support from donors, volunteers, partner organizations and landowners. Approximately half of our conserved lands are owned by government entities, such as Douglas County, Town of Parker, and Town of Castle Rock, that provide a diversity of recreational opportunities sought by folks across the Front Range. The rest of our properties under easement are private lands that protect agricultural operations, open space, scenic viewscapes, critical wildlife habitat, and wetlands in perpetuity.

Sometimes you work with a group and you walk away more hopeful for the future - that is what Douglas Land Conservancy did for me this weekend! DLC is on the front lines protecting Colorado's lands, water systems, wildlife, and air quality. I didn't really understand conservation easements until I encountered DLC. Learn more about the creative ways DLC is safeguarding our open spaces and lands for future generations: https://lnkd.in/getsveaY (.) I'm sure they would appreciate a donation as well! https://lnkd.in/gD32bPFM #ColoradoNonprofits #Conservancy #ColoradoOpenSpace
On Saturday we had the pleasure of facilitating a board and staff retreat for the Douglas Land Conservancy. It was an exciting day of collaboration! ?? The DLC team and board came together to envision the future, define core values, and strengthen teamwork. ?? We witnessed incredible transparency, honesty, and respect throughout the day. Thank you Laura, Todd, and the whole DLC Team for allowing us in your space - it was an honor! ?? If you aren't familiar with the Douglas Land Conservancy - check them out! https://lnkd.in/gv_bK_wB #ColoradoNonprofits #TeamWork #NonprofitLife #Conservation #Visioning

Many of us may be celebrating today as Columbus Day- but did you know it's also Indigenous People's Day? "It can be a day of reflection of our history in the United States, the role Native people have played in it, the impacts that history has had on native people and communities, and also a day to gain some understanding of the diversity of Indigenous peoples," says Van Heuvelen, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe from South Dakota (NPR). Today and every day, we acknowledge and show gratitude for the extensive Indigenous stewardship of and reverence for the lands that we live and recreate on, both historically and today. Photo: Mt. Blue Sky, named for the cultures and traditions of the Cheyenne and Arapaho peoples. (Mile High Traveler/The Wilderness Society) Source: NPR: https://lnkd.in/dRvnMvfx
