We couldn’t do what we do without the amazing work of the Douglas County Search and Rescue Team! Sheriff Weekly presented the Meritorious Service Award to DCSAR for their incredible efforts during a life-saving mission earlier this year. On March 23rd, a hiker on the Colorado Trail found himself in a dire situation—stuck in deep snow, hiking alone with minimal gear, and suffering a hip injury. He managed to send a text for help, which was relayed to our dispatch and DCSAR. The response included: ?? 16 rescuers hiking through deep snow for hours ?? A skilled UAV team for aerial support ?? Remote analysis and communication from 3 senior DCSAR members Given the freezing conditions, this hiker’s chances of survival were slim if left alone overnight. Thanks to the team’s relentless efforts, he was safely rescued, and another successful operation was carried out the following night during an incoming snowstorm. Sheriff Weekly commended the team, saying, “Your commitment to ongoing education and community engagement in promoting safety is invaluable. This mission is a testament to your skill and dedication.” Please join us in congratulating and thanking this incredible group of all volunteer rescuers for their outstanding service! ?? #MeritoriousServiceAward #SearchAndRescue #CommunityHeroes #DCSAR #DouglasCounty

Guns and Drugs Seized in Major Bust A two-month long narcotics investigation conducted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) IMPACT team has led to a major bust, seizing significant quantities of dangerous drugs and firearms. One person was taken into custody without incident. The operation highlights the effective collaboration between DCSO and the Arapahoe County Special Investigation Unit (SIU), showcasing the power of coordinated efforts in tackling drug distribution in our communities. In late September, DCSO Patrol Deputies initiated a DUID (Driving Under the Influence of Drugs) investigation involving fentanyl. During this investigation, officers contacted the DCSO IMPACT team for further assistance. Detectives gathered intelligence that pointed to a residence in the 9200 block of East Summit Road suspected of being involved in narcotics distribution. The Arapahoe County Special Investigation Unit (SIU) received two additional tips confirming the house in question was involved in the illegal sale of narcotics. As a result, a joint operation was initiated. A search warrant was obtained and executed on November 14, 2024, by DCSO SWAT, with detectives from DCSO IMPACT and ACSO SIU conducting a thorough search of the property. Seized items include: ? Fentanyl: 1,031.7 grams ? Methamphetamine: 12.51 grams ? Heroin: 17.25 grams ? Silver Coins: Valued at $8,540.19 ? Cash: $2,163 Additional recovered items: ? Firearms: One gun found in a barn, two guns with ammunition buried in the backyard ? Multiple AR-style BB guns ? Numerous items linked to identity theft ? Large empty 50-gallon drums buried in the backyard “This operation is a prime example of successful multi-agency collaboration and teamwork,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly. “Thanks to the swift actions and coordination between DCSO Patrol, IMPACT detectives, and Arapahoe County SIU, we were able to remove dangerous drugs and firearms from our streets, making our community safer.” The seized fentanyl alone represents a significant amount of potentially lethal doses, underscoring the dangers posed by these narcotics. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to follow leads connected to the distribution network. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working with local, state, and federal partners to combat the flow of illegal drugs and enhance public safety.

Today, on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, we stand with Teri Vogel and honor the memory of her husband, Chuck, who was tragically killed in 2019 while riding his bicycle. Teri has turned her grief into a mission to advocate for safer roads and prevent others from experiencing the same loss. We join her in remembering all those lost to traffic crashes and pledge to continue our efforts in making Douglas County’s roads safer for everyone—drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. Undersheriff David Walcher said, “What can we do? We can support people like Teri Vogel, who are trying to make a difference in our community. We can advocate for new laws and stricter penalties. We can utilize technology to increase safety where we can. We can increase enforcement, which we are doing in Douglas County. Driving is a privilege and there are some individuals who should not be driving because they endanger all of us.” Let’s work together to make sure no family has to endure this kind of heartbreak.

Congratulations to #DCSO Deputy Seth Myers, who was honored by the American Legion Harry C. Miller Post 1187 of Castle Rock at their recent birthday banquet! This award recognizes Deputy Myers for his outstanding service, dedication, and commitment to our community. We’re proud to have Deputy Myers on our team, representing the values of integrity, honor, and service every day. Thank you to the American Legion for recognizing the hard work of our deputies and for your continued support of law enforcement in Douglas County. Deputy Myers started his journey with #DCSO as a Cadet in July 2016. He has served in patrol, as a school resource officer, in detentions, and on SORT (Special Operations Response Team). But his commitment to service began long before that. In 2006, he joined the U.S. Navy Reserves as a hospital corpsman (or medic), serving with the Fleet Marine Force. From 2006 to 2016, he was attached to the Marines with deployments to Haiti and Afghanistan. He separated from the Reserves in July of 2016 after starting with DCSO. Deputy Myers re-enlisted with the USNR in April 2023 and has resumed his previous role within the organization. His dedication to both his country and community is truly inspiring. Join us in congratulating Deputy Myers on this well-deserved recognition! #VeteransDay #HonorServiceValor

As we honor the United States Marine Corps’ birthday, we wanted to feature Captain Joel White who served in the USMC before joining the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 1998. "I was a Marine Corps refueler. I served at Camp Pendleton Air Station in California and Camp Hanson in Okinawa. I served from 1993 to 1997. I’m proud to serve Douglas County with the same dedication and sense of duty that the Marine Corps instilled in me, carrying forward the values of honor, courage, and commitment each day. Semper Fi!" Starting his DCSO career in the Detentions Division as a civilian and deputy, Captain White quickly distinguished himself. He transitioned to the Patrol Division as a Field Training Officer, where his leadership and experience were evident. In 2011, he joined the Investigations Division as a Task Force Officer, working with both the FBI Metro Gang Task Force and DEA Group 1. In these roles, he took on complex conspiracy cases involving multi-jurisdictional and international investigations, pursuing major violators of controlled substance laws. Captain White went on to serve as a detective and corporal in the Major Crimes Unit, specializing in crimes against persons and conducting high-stakes investigations, including homicides and officer-involved shootings. As Sergeant of the Impact Unit, he supervised a multi-agency task force targeting criminal enterprises, and as Major Crimes Lieutenant and Captain, he oversaw critical units such as the Persons Crimes Unit, Special Victims Unit, Financial Crimes Unit, FIRST Investigative Task Force, and Crime Scene Investigators. Each role was an opportunity for Captain White to apply his Marine Corps-honed skills, bringing his hallmark discipline and strategic mindset to law enforcement. Today, Captain White leads the Special Operations, overseeing the Bomb Squad, SWAT, K-9, Mounted Patrol, HEART, CRT, and SROs. As Commander of the Douglas County Bomb Squad, his expertise includes advanced electronics, disposal techniques, and explosive breaching.. Captain White’s leadership reflects the Honor, Courage, and Commitment instilled in him by the Marine Corps. His journey is a testament to the enduring impact of service, both to his country and his community. Thank you, Captain White, for your service and for sharing your story #BehindtheBadge #HonorServiceValor #USMCBirthday

Behind the Badge ? Meet DCSO ? Deputy Mary Johnston I started with the Sheriff's Office in 2006 as a Detention Specialist. First time EVER in jail! I learned about Booking, Central Control, and assisting the deputies in the pods. I attended the Law Enforcement Academy in 2008 and became a deputy sheriff with the Office in 2009. I love my job! Every day is a box of chocolates! ?? There is something unique and different every day, from assisting inmates with answering kites, taking phone calls, working through inmate tablet issues, assisting with programs, managing commissary, responding to medical situations and implementing mental health referrals. I have worked the Graveyard shift for the past 10 years and love all the deputies and specialists I work with. I am involved with many different teams, including the Security Threat Unit (STU), Terrorist Liaison Officer (TLO), Security Threat Intelligence Network Group (STING), and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). I am a Denver native. GO BRONCOS! ?? I have four wonderful sons that I enjoy spending time with. In the summer, I have a large vegetable and wildflower garden. My fresh salsa is amazing. ??? I spend much of my time at the swimming pool with family and friends. My fur babies consist of 2 cats and 1 dog. My husband and I love taking rides on our Harley. ??? We also love country music and go two-stepping at least once or twice a month. Last year, we visited Nashville, and two stepped our way across Broadway. I love to stay in shape by kickboxing, jumping rope, riding my bike, walking, and hitting the speed bag. Life is good. I really enjoy helping people. Thank you, Deputy Johnston, for your dedication to those in your care and for everything you have done and continue to do for our #DCSO family and for the community! #BehindTheBadge #MeetDCSO

Our #DCSO School Resource Officers clearly love their jobs! Deputy Campbell, SRO at Larkspur Elementary, appropriately had a jail for their Trunk or Treat. He also gave away toothbrushes to the "inmates" who stopped by. Deputy Stever, SRO at North Star Academy, dressed up as Travis Kelce and joined the Taylor Swift Era's Tour. They won 1st place for best Trunk or Treat and have bragging rights for the year! Deputy Mauro, SRO at Fox Creek Elementary, let his inner Ken shine through at their Halloween Fall Festival.
