????????????, ???? – Douglas County received an ‘AA+’ long-term credit rating from S&P Global Ratings, a significant recognition of the County’s strong financial management and responsible fiscal policies. This high rating will provide favorable borrowing terms for the planned Douglas County Justice Center project, a critical investment in the County’s judicial infrastructure. No new taxes are required from Douglas County residents for construction. In December 2024, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved ordinances authorizing the issuance of up to $51 million in General Obligation and Medium-Term Bonds, known as the "2025 Justice Center Bond Ordinances," to fund the construction of the Justice Center. Through the two transformative bond ordinances, the anticipated $37 million Limited-Tax General Obligation (LTGO) Justice Center Bonds, Series 2025A, and the anticipated $14 million LTGO Medium-Term Bonds, Series 2025B, were assigned the rating. The report noted the outlook is stable. These bonds are backed by consolidated tax revenues ensuring that no new taxes will be imposed on County residents to finance the project. The ‘AA+’ rating is expected to result in lower interest rates, reducing borrowing costs, and maximizing taxpayer savings. This rating supports the actions of the County Commissioners to construct a state-of-the-art Justice Center designed to enhance public safety, streamline judicial operations, and improve the quality of infrastructure to meet the needs of the community. “This strong credit rating is a testament to Douglas County’s commitment to sound financial management and responsible governance by the Board of County Commissioners,” said County Manager Jenifer Davidson. “This rating allows us to continue to move forward with selling our bonds at the most favorable terms so that we will be able to construct the much-needed Justice Center in the most cost-effective way.” Douglas County’s ‘AA+’ General Obligation (GO) rating is supported by credit factors such as strong economic performance, strong fiscal health, and stable operating. The Douglas County Justice Center project aims to enhance public safety and judicial services by providing modernized facilities to meet the County’s growing needs. With this significant milestone, Douglas County is poised to advance one of its most important capital projects in recent years. Douglas County has scheduled a series of public hearings to discuss the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. During these meetings, the Board of County Commissioners will review each County department’s fiscal year operating budget. These hearings provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about the County’s financial planning and provide input on funding allocations. The budget hearings will take place at 10 a.m. at the Historic Courthouse in Minden \(1616 8th St., Minden, NV 89423\) on the following dates: March 24, 2025 March 25, 2025 March 31, 2025 April 1, 2025 Following these hearings, a final update on the budget will be presented on April 30, 2025. The final adoption of the budget is scheduled for May 27, 2025. These meetings will cover projected revenues, departmental expenditures, and potential funding priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.
