Located in downtown San Antonio, this historic building sat for decades, waiting for someone to make it their home. In 2016, Quality Services International hired Douglas Architects to design their new corporate headquarters for the historic Arevalo Building, or 211 North Alamo. Embracing the historic structure and creating a rustic, yet modern interior, Douglas Architects adaptively reused the unique concrete and steel structure and highlighted the building’s spectacular window openings and masonry, while preserving the feel of the open spaces inside. Using reclaimed pine wall and ceiling panels and juxtaposing a light, moveable glass and metal wall system against exposed brick interior walls, the design blends both new and old. The design called for restoring the original hardwood flooring where possible and incorporating a new, warm corporate environment for Quality Services and their staff. The mixed-use building also incorporated a retail component on the first floor, as well as 3 residential units on the fourth floor. Construction began in May of 2017. The building has been featured in the San Antonio Business Journal as one of “San Antonio’s coolest offices”.

Project Highlight: Merchant’s Ice/TRTF Parking Garage To accommodate the growing parking demands of MerchaProject Highlight: Merchant’s Ice/TRTF Parking Garage To accommodate the growing parking demands of Merchant’s Ice office building and the larger TRTF campus, Douglas Architects, along with its team of consultants, has designed a four story, 400-space parking garage on East Houston Street, directly south of the Merchant’s Ice building. Responding to the context of the neighborhood, as well as the Merchant’s campus, the garage is detailed with brick masonry, board-formed concrete elevator and stair tower, framed metal screens, vertical punched openings, and landscape planters. A 30-acre mixed-use Transit Oriented Development, Rohnert Station is located in Rohnert Park, CA. Planning services provided by Douglas Architects included the development’s central quad. The proposed creative urban center is a transformation of a semi-suburban site which when complete will include retail, office, housing, hotel, and a transit station. Potential tenants and investors will be provided planning/marketing materials created by Douglas Architects.
