This week, our Leadership Dothan class got an inside look at the vital work of our local first responders during Public Safety Day! The day kicked off at the Wiregrass Public Safety Center, where Chief Will Benny of the Dothan Police Department welcomed the group. Participants then heard from Jason Wright, Facility Director, followed by insightful presentations from DPD’s Lt. Sammie Hancock and Lt. William Wozniak on public safety operations. The morning continued with demonstrations featuring K-9 units, bomb disposal teams (BED), live fire scenarios, skid car training, and virtual reality simulations, giving the class an up-close perspective on the skills and technology that keep our community safe. After enjoying a delicious lunch provided by Red Elephant, Battalion Chief Ritchie Byrd and Captain Travis Fretts led a session on the Dothan Fire Department, setting the stage for more live-action training, fire attack drills, and an EMS chest compression competition. A huge thank you to all the Dothan Police, Fire, and EMS personnel for their dedication and for making this such an engaging and educational experience! This week, we had the privilege of recognizing outstanding JROTC cadets at the JROTC Leadership Award Ceremony, presented by our Military Affairs Sponsors, Aero-One Aviation, LLC and Coleman Worldwide Moving. These cadets have demonstrated exceptional leadership, discipline, and dedication to service—qualities that make them future leaders in our community and beyond.
