We are excited to share one of our favorite projects, the Boston University Center for Computing and Data Sciences. With expansive glass facades and soaring atrium spaces, the lighting design for this iconic Boston University building balances ample daylight near the perimeter by lighting vertical surfaces deeper within the floor plate. Daylight harvesting continuously adapts the electric lighting to the exterior conditions maximizing the efficiency of the design to achieve a LEED Platinum certification. After sunset, the overhead lighting dims while the lit interior walls create a lantern-like glow.? This evening inversion of the lighting hierarchy creates a warm, welcoming environment for students to meet, socialize, and study. In the performance venue, static blue grazers between open cell guardrails highlight the balcony geometry and are dimmed during performances to provide aisle lighting. To create dramatic portals and tease blurred glimpses into VIP, lighting is integrated within the polycarbonate wall. Market Hall canopies have edge lit acrylic panels providing intimate lighting for dining.
